Overview:
The CDC Foundation seeks a Medical Consultant who will support the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. The Medical Consultant will provide guidance and subject matter expertise by interfacing with Infection Prevention and providing ongoing support in understanding how to mitigate outbreaks of communicable diseases in jails, utilizing the jail health plan and sharing resources available from public health and communicable disease to help them with their populations. The position will support closing out final reports to CDC on jails and prisons.

Qualifications:
· Knowledge of theory, principles and practices of general and preventative medicine, as related to public health administration.· Knowledge of best practices related to public health services.· Knowledge of surveillance methodology, data analysis and study design.· Knowledge of public health laws, regulations and policies.· Knowledge of developments in the field of public health and ability to apply improved techniques and procedures in the specialty to which assigned.· Ability to establish and maintain effective communication and working relationships with the general public, other physicians and professional and community groups.· Ability to prepare and present educational materials to professional and community groups.· Ability to provide leadership during an emergency or disaster.· Licensed to practice medicine in the state of North Carolina.· Graduate from an accredited school of medicine and completion of internship in an approved hospital, and three years of experience in a professional medical capacity;or Graduate from an accredited school of medicine and completion of internship in an approved hospital, a Master’s Degree in Public Health, and one year of experience in a professional medical capacity: or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Responsibilities:
· Provide medical consultation and guidance on statewide public health programs and concerns to medical providers and state and local agencies.· Plan, oversee and coordinate public health activities, as well as preparedness and disease and disaster response.· Develop and disseminate protocols, policies and best practices to optimize public health.· Review guidance, media responses, and other public documents, ensuring consistency with FDA authorization and ACIP clinical considerations.· Develops solutions to a variety of complex medical management problems and helps to implement these.· Directly supports the Health Department emergency preparedness and response functions.· Contribute to the development of protocols and identification strategies for improving and/or enhancing surveillance data collection, management, and/or monitoring processes.· Evaluate and analyze data to make recommendations for public health policies, promotion, and disease prevention.· Provide relevant medical education and knowledge to others in terms appropriate and understandable to the intended audience· Provide medical expertise to the state office and regions and consultative support to both internal and external customers· Remain up-to-date on clinical recommendations and guidance related to the various programs within the Health Department and provide support across response teams· Perform quality assurance checks on data reports and ongoing documentation practices.· Apply sound critical thinking and judgment skills.· Serve as a team lead for other temporary staff on the Corrections team.

Roles and responsibilities listed above may be expanded upon or updated to match priorities and needs, once written approval is received by both the CDC Foundation and North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, in order to best support the State of North Carolina in their public health programming.
This position is currently a remote position.
