As Digital Buildings Engineer, you will have the opportunity to influence & develop tools and solutions required to deploy and manage our building controls & IoT systems on the client infrastructure. You are highly technical and are comfortable reaching out to partner teams and stakeholders to solve problems for the business and support  complex engineering programs using your IoT expertise within the building controls domain.

This role requires you to be accountable as the technical partner for supporting system upgrades projects, overseeing our fleet monitoring tooling and automation and being a technical partner to our client to ensure high availability and smooth operational running of our digital building technologies.

You will partner with our program managers and operations engineers to ensure projects complete through the entire lifecycle. You will be working with business partners and external engineering stakeholders to review requirements and use technical judgements to develop solutions. 

The role requires experience of commercial IoT technologies to be directly involved with developing standards, designing and implementing IoT related initiatives

The role of Digital Buildings Consultant Engineer is to provide technical related consultancy and systems engineering in the field of Digital Building technologies, applications, process, standards for FPC and our clients. Working as a part of the FPC Digital Buildings Services Group, the role will be responsible for delivering projects and services to FPC’s clients in order to successfully fulfil the Scope of Work (SoW) outlined in the Agreement, Proposal or Engagement Letter between FPC and it’s client, together with any other relevant client side documents such as Business Requirements Document (BRD), policies, standards and processes.  

The Digital Buildings Consultant Engineer represents FPC in delivering services to our clients and when working with industry partners and suppliers, so will maintain the highest standards of technical and professional performance, and conduct themself with honesty and integrity at all times. 

In addition to client facing role and responsibilities, the Digital Buildings Consultant Engineer is expected to be an active member of the Digital Buildings Services team, to make a positive contribution to the development of the team and wider FPC business, working effectively with all FPC colleagues to successfully deliver projects and support FPC’s business objectives.

Requirements

  • Provide regional coverage for upgrade programs as part of our engineering team to deliver GCP and application, hardware and OS upgrades relating to building controls/commercial IoT on client infrastructure
  • Work with our team to plan, design, implement and develop new functionality in existing service and be responsible for testing and implementing solutions and prototypes
  • Partner with our client Eng teams to develop the long-term roadmap and execution of our IoT ecosystem, so we can automate deployment and management of our solutions. Identify and drive efficiency opportunities
  • Ensure operational excellence and reliability of the fleet ensuring systems are operating, alerts are mitigated and there is real time visibility of the fleet on our monitoring infrastructure
  • The responsibilities for this role include, but are not limited to, the following:  
    • Delivery of consultancy and engineering services and projects for clients in accordance with the Proposal, Scope of Work (SoW) and/or Engagement Letter 
    • Understand customer requirements and business objectives and work proactively with FPC, the client and other stakeholders to meet and deliver them 
    • Provide support, advice and collaborate on Digital Building systems integration, technologies, initiatives and solutions, processes and standards for FPC and our clients 
    • Design Digital Building systems and architectures to provide optimum performance, functionality and value
    • Review Digital Building systems architectures and designs, identifying issues and suggesting improvements 
    • Produce service delivery, technical and project related reports as required 

Experience and Qualifications

The Digital Building Consultant Engineer should possess experience and qualifications in the following: 

  • Minimum 5 years Digital Building industry experience 
  • Proven track record in Digital Building related roles e.g. Consultant, Designer, Project Manager or Engineer 
    • Strong technical expertise in Digital Building technologies including some or all of the following: 
      • Digital Building and IoT Systems Integration design, development and implementation 
      • Digital Building and IoT Controls Systems including:  
        • Building Management Systems (BMS) 
        • Automation Systems 
        • Lighting Controls Systems (LCS) 
        • Audio Visual Systems (AV)
        • Controls Strategies 
        • Control Protocols (BACnet, MQTT, Modbus, LON, MBus, DALI, Fox, SMI, etc.) 
        • Systems Specifications 
        • System Architectures 
        • Schematic Drawings & Wiring Diagrams 
        • Description of Operations 
        • Point Naming and Addressing 
        • Asset Records 
      • Cybersecurity best practices 
      • IP Networking (IPV4, IPV6, Switching, Routing, DHCP, WiFi, Structured Cabling, etc.)
      • System Audits & Site Surveys 
    • Digital Building and IoT Industry training and professional qualifications 
    • Construction Industry Health & Safety Qualification (CSCS or equivalent) and understanding of H&S RAMS 
    • Effective Stakeholder Management and communication skills, including attending project, client and team meetings, document writing and presentation skills 
    • Experience as working as part of a Design Team to develop coordinated designs, including: 
      • Client requirements gathering and documentation 
      • Technical Submittal Creation / Review 
      • SoW and Specification Development 
    • Competent using Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office software applications
