This position is in the Research, Development and Engineering Computing Technologies group at Corning’s Sullivan Park research facility. Our group supports modeling and pure research efforts by providing computing infrastructure and software development to support our scientific community.

 

Scope of Position:

Corning’s co-op and internship experience is rich with hands-on learning. You’ll live, work, and experience the communities in which Corning operates, while building on-the-job skills. The purpose of our Program is to raise the bar on talent by strengthening our pipeline for entry level roles for immediate and future needs. To be considered for this opportunity at Corning Incorporated, you must be actively enrolled at a college or university as a full-time student seeking a bachelor’s degree or higher. Day to Day Responsibilities:

Work with a senior software engineer(s) and our developing tools for an internal application, which could include:

  • Work with organization to understand the work that we do.
  • Work with the corporate InfoSec team to perform a threat assessment for our team.
  • Give the team a prioritized action plan for remediating vulnerabilities in our organization.
  • Recommend tools the team could deploy to monitor for threats.
  • Perform penetration tests against our internal platforms.

 

Required Skills:

  • Familiarity with code monitoring tools and how to automate their implementation (Gitlab pipelines)
  • Familiarity with tools for monitoring infrastructure vulnerabilities, including tools for Linux systems, virtual machines, and Kubernetes environments.
  • Cyber security skills (Pen Testing, DAST, Kali Linux)

 

Required Education:

  • Pursuing Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar degree requiring significant programming and project development with a concentration in cyber security.

 

Desired Skills:

  • Collaborative work using a version control system.
  • Experience with command line Linux.
  • Understanding of DevSecOps principles (Shift left, Application Security Testing, etc.)
  • Vulnerability remediation (Docker images, Containers, code, dependencies)
  • Comfortable with college level math and science.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

  • Normal Business Hours 8:00-5:00 EST.
  • Duration: Summer and Fall 2024, 8-12 weeks. (Can be flexible on start/end dates)

​The range for this position is $1,635.00 - $3,185.00 biweekly.  Starting pay for the successful applicant is prescribed based on geographic location, nature of position, and year in school.
