An overview of this role

The Engineering Manager will lead a fullstack team of backend, frontend, and fullstack engineers. They will work collaboratively with Product, Development, and UX counterparts as part of a group tasked with developing and supporting the Vulnerability and Dependence Management features in GitLab’s Security section.

Hiring is a key part of the role, as well as supporting team member growth and development. The engineering manager works closely with the leadership team within Threat Insights and the Govern sub-department. Clear communication through regular updates is essential. The engineering manager will leverage their own and the team's deep technical and domain knowledge to keep roadmap deliverables, OKRs, and engineering performance indicators on track. 

What you’ll do  

  • Manage a team of engineers across multiple disciplines
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to gather requirements and deliver features in GitLab
  • Author project plans for epics and run agile project management processes
  • Monitor progress, unblock obstacles, and ensure on-time delivery for the team
  • Coach and mentor team members to support their professional growth
  • Promote a culture of innovation, inclusion, and delivery

What you’ll bring 

  • Proven experience managing high-performing engineering teams
  • Data-driven approach to improving team productivity and effectiveness
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and stakeholder management abilities
  • Experience working on application Security and Compliance, as an individual contributor or manager
  • Working knowledge of the backend technologies, preferably Ruby on Rails or Go
  • Working knowledge of modern frontend frameworks, preferably Vue.js
  • Demonstrated experience delivering scalable solutions, from database to frontend performance, as an individual contributor or manager

About the team

The Threat Insights development teams are part of the Govern sub-department, in the Expansion Department at GitLab. The team's work enables customers to shift left with GitLab’s Security, Compliance and Governance features. Features need to perform at scale. Database and frontend optimization are key, along with adhering to GitLab’s development standards. The team supports and contributes to GitLab Duo AI features for vulnerability management. The base salary range for this role’s listed level is currently for residents of listed locations only. Grade level and salary ranges are determined through interviews and a review of education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities of the applicant, equity with other team members, and alignment with market data. Sales roles are also eligible for incentive pay targeted at up to 100% of the offered base salary.Colorado/Washington pay range$131,600—$253,800 USDCalifornia/Hawaii/New York/New Jersey pay range$131,600—$282,000 USD
