Summary

Information and Technology Services (ITS) is looking for a Security Systems Administrator Senior/Intermediate to join the Information Assurance department within ITS. As part of a growing, high performance team with expanding responsibilities, you will work in a very collaborative environment to improve the security posture of the University's most sensitive and essential assets and provide security services for university systems. You will report to the Design and Engineering Manager.

You would support commercial IT security-related applications such as Splunk, Humio, CyberArk, Passwordstate, request tracker for incident response (RTIR), and provide some support for custom developed applications such as Michigan Intelligence for threat negation (MITN) and sensitive data discovery (SDD).

Responsibilities*

You will support existing commercial and open source applications to support IA's mission including:

  • Apply system updates and patches
  • Maintain a secure and stable system configuration
  • Monitor system health and performance
  • Evaluate and propose improvements to IA tools and capabilities
  • Troubleshoot user issues
  • Provision and configure use of tools to meet user requests

Required Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, certification and experience
  • Minimum of 4 years application administration experience
  • Understanding of server infrastructure, including TCP/IP networking, virtualization environments or enterprise application delivery
  • Proficient in one or more programming languages, scripting languages and automation platforms such as Ansible
  • Experience with fundamental information security concepts including: Authentication, Authorization, Encryption, and Firewalls
  • Experience facilitating and communicating to others at all levels of an organization to move toward a common goal

Desired Qualifications*

  • Linux command line experience
  • Experience with fundamental security related practices including: Risk Management, Incident Response, Vulnerability Management, System and Application Hardening, and Identity and Access Management
  • Experience with DevOps practices and tools such as GitLab

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.

Additional Information

Normal amount of sitting, average mobility to move around an office environment; able to conduct normal amounts of work at a computer; travel to different locations on and off campus. May require on-call availability and may require working during non-business hours and on weekends.
