THE JOB

Live Nation Canada is looking for an action-oriented Director, Security Operations & Risk Management for our owned & operated Venues, festivals and events nationally. This position, reporting to the VP, Operations, and in partnership with Live Nation’s Global Security team helps initiate, oversee and coordinate Security and Risk Management efforts across Canada with primary focus on mitigating risk to tours, amphitheaters, clubs and theaters, arenas, stadiums, festivals and offices.

WHAT THIS ROLE WILL DO 

  • Assist the VP, Operations to identify specific security goals, objectives and metrics consistent with the greater Live Nation corporate strategic plan for the Live Nation Canada portfolio of venues and events. 

  • Ongoing development of best in class security training standards and practices for annual training of security personnel at Live Nation Canada venues to ensure all security personnel meet company standards. 

  • Achieve a working knowledge of Live Nation business lines, assets, policies, operations, people, and objectives. 

  • Lead security operations planning and coordination with Festival, Touring and Venue Leadership. 

  • Assist the VP, Operations to understand the regulatory and operational practices of Festivals and provide security and counterterrorism advice and assistance to Division Presidents and Festival Management. 

  • Collaborate in the development of an enterprise-wide and consistent incident reporting/management and crisis communications process.  Coordinate incident management and emergency response programs with cross-Division leadership and affected Live Nation executives and stakeholders.  Be the focal point for venue security incidents and lead incident response activities effectively with stakeholders, as required. 

  • Oversee the integration of Live Nation Global risk policies, programs, processes, standards, and tools into Owned and Operated Venues and Festivals 

  • Provides advice on managing and reducing risk during the inception, planning and execution of events through the lens of regulatory requirements and crowd safety including the development of weather protocols and the Live Nation Public Safety, Security and Emergency Management Plan. 

  • Participate in brainstorming, idea generation, and budget/operations planning sessions with the VP, Operations, Venue GM’s and other Global Security leaders to set priorities and goals for each year, solve identified problems and prioritize/plan activities. 

  • Identify appropriate security technologies and solutions and assist with vetting outside vendors and resources in an effort to positively impact venue and tour security operations and enhance fan experience and business objectives. 

  • Ensure a close working relationship between the Venue Security Teams & GM/Operations Team, in addition to ongoing collaboration with Live Nation’s Global Security Team. 

  • Partner with internal business units, external stakeholders and sub-contractors, industry peers, law enforcement and intelligence agencies to identify and leverage best practices and suggest refinements to security policies, standards and procedures to ensure contemporary relevance to Live Nation security operations.  

  • Perform security audits and risk vulnerability assessments of tours, venues and their operations to identify potential concerns, prioritize operational gaps, and identify corrective actions to improve security posture.  

  • Support Venue GMs and Tours in liaising with Local, Provincial and Federal agencies to ensure coordination and communication between venues and authorities are maintained and productive. 

  • Where applicable and in collaboration with Human Resources, coordinate with each Venue GM the Local, Provincial and Federal Licensing requirements for security guards. 

  • Additional responsibilities as Live Nation’s overall security planning efforts evolve over time. 

WHAT THIS PERSON WILL BRING 

  • 10+ years of professional experience in a leadership role in law enforcement, event security, crowd management and emergency planning. Within live sports or entertainment industry an asset. 

  • Direct experience engaging and partnering with local municipalities, law enforcement agencies, and community leaders 

  • Experience in developing training curriculum & materials, and in-depth knowledge of operational security requirements in Canada by different jurisdictions (ie: Provincial or other local requirements for licensing, training, etc.) 

  • Should have experience with change management and operating in a highly decentralized organizational structure.  

  • Must be highly flexible, creative, comfortable with ambiguity and committed to win-win solutions to complex issues. 

  • Must be able to discuss, evaluate and negotiate security-related concepts with a broad audience of technical and non-technical staff. 

  • Excellent written and verbal communication as well as organizational skills 

  • Position requires travel  

  • Abilities to work flexible/varied hours – nights, weekends, holidays

Physical Requirements/Work Environment  

Stationary position for extended periods of time at a computer station or work desk; movement throughout the day; occasionally move about inside the office to access file cabinets, office machinery, etc.; ability to operate computers and office equipment for up to 8 hours each day; move up to 10 pounds regularly; exposed to typical office environment conditions and noise levels.
