Your role in the team

 

At Allstate, Data & Intelligent Systems (D&IS) provide technology for Allstate's information strategy, which helps to drive a competitive advantage. D&IS bring innovation to data management through patented solutions for standardized data exchange, self-service enablement tools, a scaled approach to data cataloging for data discoverability, privacy and compliance-forward enterprise tooling and an internally developed data marketplace.

 

As a Platform Consultant, you have deep expertise in our core systems and consumer journey and a profound influence over multiple digital products to iteratively deliver value. You are the technical subject matter expert over those products, services, and platforms. You define the solution design that will enable the products and services to perform well and integrate with the enterprise solutions. You are responsible for the alignment of product design to local and enterprise standards, and you use patterns to rapidly unlock business value and enable engineering focus. You also focus on our ruthless pursuit of reuse for product code and capabilities.

 

You will partner with the Lead Digital Product Manager and Digital Product Managers to develop a deep understanding of the current strategic initiative problems and desired vision of the platforms. You will partner with the Lead Managing Engineers and Managing Engineers to set objectives, priorities, and roadmaps for executing greater engineering excellence. You will work directly with engineering teams as applicable to identify issues and opportunities for the prioritization of fresh design principles.  You will build trust and influence with other Product Engineers by coding and developing rapid prototypes based on business value opportunities as needed. You will partner with the broader technology organization to aid the delivery of digital capabilities that create value for consumers and for Allstate, enabling key business outcomes.

 

 

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):

 

  • Leads with an engineering mindset, leveraging practical coding skills/ability to future proof solutions and achieve intended outcomes
  • Pair with engineers as needed
  • Actively participate in incident responses in partnership with Managing Engineer
  • Facilitating discovery & framing sessions along with other key ceremonies in partnership with Digital Product Managers
  • Drives design thinking using lean hypothesis frameworks
  • Orchestrates solutioning across digital products and services
  • Drives effective root cause analysis and mistake proofing
  • A subject matter expert in relation to the consumer journey/business process and the influence of technology

 

 

 

 

So, what are the essential criteria to apply?

 

  • All applicants must demonstrate they have a legal right to work in the UK for employment at Allstate. Allstate is not providing sponsorship for this vacancy.
  • At minimum 5 years’ Full Stack engineering experience using Java; and  
  • A minimum of 2 years’ operating as a Technical Leader within a Product team with experience designing large scale distributed systems and/or applications, including microservices with a focus on event driven architecture; and
  • Experience with test-driven development and writing JUNIT, Integration, Regression, Performance and Load tests; and
  • Expert knowledge in Design and Implementing REST Services, Integration messaging systems like JMS MQ, Kafka etc.; and
  • Strong experience and knowledge of backend database integration, JMS, Web Services; and
  • Strong UI skills using one of the major JavaScript frameworks like ReactJS; and
  • Experience in writing SQL queries and stored procedures
  • Experience of Cloud platforms, such as PCF, AWS
  • Direct experience with full CI/CD  
  • Background and knowledge of working in an Agile environment

 

 

 

We also have some desirable criteria

 

  • ETL experience, specifically with Ab Initio or Python
  • Experience using Personal Identifiable Information best practices
  • Good knowledge of networking concepts including TCP/IP, UDP, streaming, routing, latency vs throughput
