WCK seeks a Director, Safety and Security Operations to strengthen and support the Safety and Security team’s operational and policy development functions for the effective safeguarding and risk management of its global operations.

The Director, in close collaboration with the Relief team, will focus on operational and travel safety and security globally and across all offices and activation sites to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of our staff, volunteers, and contractors.

This newly created position will also provide additional operational capacity in operations should crises within existing or new country expansion need extra high-level support for a concentrated period. This position requires frequent travel, including internationally, up to several weeks at a time to activation areas. This position is intended to be hybrid, based in Washington DC, with 2-3 days on-site per week when not traveling.

This position reports to the Chief Security Officer, will work in close collaboration with key operational departments within the organization. 

Key Responsibilities:
Safety and Security

  • Assists in the selection, contracts, training, and mentoring of the Security Corps team members
  • Oversees safety and security analysis, planning and management including the implementation and regular update of Global Safety and Security Policy and Procedures
  • Coordinates the incident reporting process across all global teams and country offices
  • Leads crisis management response in the field in case of safety, security and health-related emergencies. 
  • Coordinates regional safety and security assessments and works with Relief leadership to analyze safety and security risks and improve procedures. 
  • Provides regular safety and security  analysis and information to the Executive team.
  • Spearheads the application of WCK’s safety and security policies and procedures across all activations. 

Safeguarding 

  •  In collaboration with the HR Department, oversees the implementation and regular update of WCK’s Safeguarding Policy. ensuring that relevant projects have up-to-date compliance plans. 
  • Promotes safe programming concepts in all of WCK’s projects by ensuring that safeguarding risk assessments are conducted. 
  • Spearheads capacity developments efforts, training, coaching on safeguarding matters 
  • Leads the review of safeguarding incidents and concerns with program teams and consolidating lessons learned to improve program quality 

Internal Policies and Procedures 

  • Participates in cross-team initiatives to improve our safety and security, travel and risk management processes 
  • Fields and responds to operations-related questions and ad hoc requests related to safety and security, safeguarding, travel, risk management, environmental performance
  • Develops and implements staff safety and security training and awareness-building activities including on Situational Awareness, HEAT, surveillance detection and mitigation, First Aid, and driver training 
  • Develops, maintains, implements, and executes crisis management plans and incident management

Risk Management 

  • Leads the development and management of the risk registers
  • Provides operational support including country visits, emergency deployments, and surge needs for start-ups or gap filling
  • Conducts preliminary, ongoing, periodic and event-initiated assessments of the safety and security of WCK’s events, facilities, and staff deployment

Security Strategy Management

  • Assist in the development of long- and short-term strategic plans for the Safety and Security team with collaboration from other departmental teams as appropriate.
  • Develop innovative projects and concept designs to maximize efficiencies Safety and Security program implementation.
  • Assist with incorporation of global travel functions into the Safety and Security team, working with other teams and departmental stakeholders as appropriate
  • Assist in the drafting, release, and selection of vendors for Global Security team priorities based on RFPs/RFQs and other relevant procurement mechanisms
  • In consultation with the Chief Safety and Security Officer, design and validate Safety and Security strategies and policies, with the support of departmental Directors and other subject-matter experts

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven years’ experience managing security operations for organizations with multiple offices outside of the United States
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience successfully supervising teams with diverse technical skills and responsibilities
  • Minimum of seven years’ experience providing leadership in crisis response situations
  • Minimum of two years of relevant experience outside of the US
  • Significant experience developing, monitoring and evaluating security protocols
  • Significant experience conducting threat analyses and risk evaluations
  • Experience with multi-level electronic security systems
  • Effective and professional communication skills that demonstrate tact and cultural sensitivity while ensuring security protocols are upheld
  • Significant experience in the development and delivery of relevant  training.
  • The ability to travel immediately and directly to support emergency relief activities in person
  • Schedule flexibility to work extended hours and to account for time zone differences 
  • Developed organizational, time management, and administrative skills
  • Familiar with relevant software and tools such as AirTable, Google Apps, etc.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Demonstrate resilience while working in adverse, dynamic conditions
  • Ability to work independently with minimal infrastructure and resources
  • Valid passport
  • Valid driver’s license 
  • Valid US employment authorization
