The Cyber Security Department is responsible for protecting plant equipment, cyber sabotage and leading the reduction of cyber risk. Our department is focused on teamwork through relationship building, collaboration and supporting our goal of industry leading cyber security innovative processes, continuous improvement, and academic initiatives.   

 

Position Summary

The Cyber Security Intern will be responsible for managing and supporting our cyber security resource office (CSRO). This office primarily performs work to support plant maintenance by managing the checking-in and out, malware scanning, cyber hardening, and troubleshooting of portable media and mobile devices. The CSRO is also responsible for performing vulnerability scans of digital assets, auditing of digital asset configuration, and performing cyber-related periodic activities such as updating malware signature and definition files.

 

Regularly interface and collaborate with multiple departments including Instrumentation & Controls technicians, Engineering, Security, Operations, Work Planning, and Scheduling.  The position may also work in Special Projects related to the DCPP cyber security program or Cal Poly Critical Infrastructure Cyber Lab. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Preparing Portable Media & Mobile Devices (PMMD) for use in plant maintenance.
  • Auditing and complying with PMMD procedures and processes.
  • Performing laptop hardening based on benchmarks and procedures.
  • Maintaining malware scanning tools and kiosks.
  • Performing sanitization & disposal of digital plant equipment.
  • Supporting plant personnel with generic IT-related troubleshooting.
  • Managing malware definition and signature updates on cyber tools.
  • Performing configuration backup, auditing, and validation.
  • Perform ongoing maintenance activities related to cyber security

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Earning a B.S. Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Cyber Security, Information Systems, or other related field, or equivalent experience. 
  • Students MUST be continuing education towards degree during and/or after internship.
  • Able to follow Safety First principles.
  • Effective communication skills to peers and clients.
  • Results driven and customer focused.

 

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience in IT-Information Technology security, multi-platform, or related
  • Microsoft Office, SAP, SharePoint, Security tools.
  • Attention to work quality and research driven.
  • Able to balance workload and priorities.
  • Able to balance the priorities of the business and maintain/stay customer focused.
  • Multi-Platform knowledge. (UNIX/LINUX, Windows Servers/Desktops, Cisco or palo Alto hardware, etc.)
  • Ability to influence and lead behavior change Competency in making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problems.
  • Competency in making good and timely decisions that keep the organization moving forward.
  • Competency in developing and delivering multi-mode communications that convey a clear understanding of the unique needs of different audiences.

  • Ability to energizes coworkers to maintain a positive attitude towards the team.

  • Knowledge of basic computer networking concepts and protocols, and network security methodologies
