Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Cybersecurity Watch Officer - Proactive Monitoring to become part of Peraton’s Department of State (DoS) Diplomatic Security Cyber Mission (DSCM) program providing leading cyber and technology security experience to enable innovative, effective, and secure business processes. 

 

Location: On-site in Beltsville, MD 

 

Shift: Sunday - Saturday, 1st shift role, 6:00 AM - 2:00 PM; alternating

 

In this role, you will: 

  • Be responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and responding to security events and incidents in real-time to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of our organization's information assets.
  • Monitor security event logs and alerts from various sources, including security information and event management (SIEM) systems, intrusion detection systems (IDS), and endpoint detection and response (EDR) tools.
  • Analyze security events and incidents to identify potential threats, vulnerabilities, and risks to the organization's infrastructure, applications, and data.
  • Conduct initial triage and investigation of security incidents to determine the scope, impact, and severity of the threat.Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT operations, network engineering, and application development, to coordinate incident response activities and implement remediation measures.
  • Document security incidents, including actions taken and lessons learned, for post-incident analysis and reporting.Stay abreast of emerging cyber threats, attack techniques, and security best practices to enhance the organization's proactive security posture.
  • Participate in regular security training and exercises to enhance skills and knowledge in cyber security monitoring and incident response.
  • Assist in the development and refinement of security monitoring and incident response procedures, playbooks, and workflows.

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information security, or a related field and 5 years of relevant experience. 
  • 1-2 years of experience in a cyber security related role, preferably in security monitoring and incident response.
  • Familiarity with security technologies and tools, such as SIEM, IDS/IPS, EDR, firewall, and vulnerability scanning.
  • Knowledge of networking concepts, protocols, and architectures.
  • Understanding of common cyber threats, attack vectors, and exploitation techniques.
  • Demonstrated strength in analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels of the organization.
  • Certifications: at least ONE of the following: 
    • CCNA Security
    • CEH
    • CISSP
    • CySA+
    • GICSP
    • GSEC
    • Security+ CE
    • CND
    • SSCP
    • Industry Standard IR certs – CSSP Incident Responder
  • Active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility.

 

Desired: 

  • TS/SCI.

Target Salary Range

$86,000 - $138,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
