About Okta Risk and Attack Defense team

Okta’s Risk and Attack Defense (RAD) engineering team builds products and services that keep our customers safe. The products we build protect our customers against attack and abuse. We are a team of full stack engineers, Data Scientists, and ML engineers that are reimagining what it means to authenticate to cloud resources. 

Continuously evaluating threats is critical to gaining trust and achieving security objectives. At Okta, risk plays a critical role in authentication and authorization decisions. The RAD team is building a next-gen security detection and risk platform that continuously assesses the session, device and user security posture to build a risk graph for the industry!

Position Description

Okta is seeking an Engineering Manager to join its RAD engineering group. This is an opportunity to lead a group of engineers to solve critical security problems. The ideal candidate has experience building, launching and managing security products at scale.

You will share our passion and great pride in elegant solutions and will join an engineering team that strongly believes in designing for scale, rigorous code reviews, automated testing, and an iterative process to build high-quality enterprise software. You will demonstrate great aptitude for software engineering excellence and aren’t afraid to be a player-coach.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

  • Own and manage the design, development and delivery of cloud native security products - from concept design to final implementation.
  • Manage, mentor and coach an in-house team of developers. Invest in the growth of your teammates and foster Okta’s cultural values - Builder, Learner, Owner, and Collaborator.  
  • Influence the direction of the security products. 
  • Collaborate with Architects, Product Managers and Okta’s in-house cybersecurity team to develop ML-first security products.
  • Do design and code reviews. Commit to high standards. 
  • Strong cross-group collaboration and interpersonal communication skills working with a variety of roles including engineering, product management, design, support, and sales engineering
  • Experience working with remote teams and individuals while ensuring agility and velocity

 

Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • 10+ years of software industry experience as an engineer, technical lead or a technical manager
  • 2+ years of experience managing software development teams

 

Nice to Haves

  • Hands on experience building Java and/or Java based web applications
  • Experience building anomaly detection systems or risk systems is a huge plus. 
  • Experience in cloud security, identity and/or authentication protocols
  • Experience building and delivering AI/ML based systems

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $186,000—$280,000 USD

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, New York, and Washington is between:$166,000—$250,000 USD
