Role Description 

The role of the Lead Consultant (Digital Buildings) is critical to the success of the FPC Digital Building Services business line, providing technical related consultancy and systems engineering in the field of Digital Buildings / IoT technologies, applications, process, standards for FPC and our clients. 

The Lead Consultant (Digital Buildings) represents FPC in delivering services to our clients and when working with industry partners and suppliers, so will maintain the highest standards of technical and professional performance, and conduct themself with honesty and integrity at all times. 

In addition to client facing role and responsibilities, the Lead Consultant (Digital Buildings) is expected to be an active member of the Digital Building Services team, to make a positive contribution to the development of the team and wider FPC business, working effectively with all FPC colleagues to successfully deliver projects and support FPC’s business objectives.

Key Responsibilities

Working as a part of the FPC Digital Buildings Services Group, and reporting to the Global Director of Digital Buildings, the key responsibilities of the Lead Consultant (Digital Buildings) are to: 

  • Manage the delivery on time and to budget of programmes of work, projects and services for Digital Buildings Services client engagements in accordance with the Proposal, Scope of Work (SoW) and/or Engagement Letter, together with any other relevant client side documents  
  • Identifying, developing and supporting business development opportunities for the Digital Buildings Services business line and, where applicable, the wider FPC business
  • Development of Proposal, Scope of Work (SoW) and/or Engagement Letters for Digital Buildings Services client engagements  
  • Leading and managing teams of IoT consultants and engineers 
  • Understand customer requirements and business objectives and work proactively with FPC, the client and other stakeholders to meet and deliver them
  • Support, advise and collaborate on IoT systems integration, technologies, initiatives and solutions, processes and standards for FPC and our clients 
  • Providing strategic technical and industry expertise to develop the Digital Building Services business line
  • Contribute to the identification, development and taking to market of Services and Solutions as part of the FPC Digital Buildings Services Portfolio 
  • Positively contribute to the development of the team and wider FPC business, working effectively with all FPC colleagues to successfully deliver projects and support FPC’s business objectives
  • Represent FPC in a professional manner internally and externally, and achieve a high level of customer satisfaction for all work performed
  • Maintain expertise, knowledge and understanding of industry trends, developments and initiatives
  • Identify, develop, deliver and support opportunities for continuous improvement for FPC 
  • Report to the Global Director of Digital Buildings, acting in accordance with their requests and direction and those of FPC Senior Management 
  • Manage own workload, communicating and escalating any issues to line manager accordingly 
  • Act in accordance with all FPC employment policies and procedures, including FPC Employee Handbook, Health & Safety and Time and Expenses Reporting 
  • Carry out any other duties reasonably requested by FPC Management Contracting 

Requirements

Experience and Qualifications

The Lead Consultant should possess experience and qualifications in the following: 

  • Minimum 10 years Digital / Smart Buildings industry experience 
  • Proven track record in Digital Buildings / IoT related roles e.g. Consultant, Designer, Project Manager or Engineer 
  • Effective Stakeholder Management and communication skills, including attending project, client and team meetings, document writing and presentation skills 
  • Proven experience in leading the delivery of Digital Buildings / IoT related programmes / projects 
  • Strong and effective team leadership and management skills 
  • Technical expertise in IoT technologies including some or all of the following: 
    • Digital Buildings Systems Integration design, development and implementation 
    • Digital Buildings Controls Systems 
    • Cybersecurity best practices 
    • IP Networking (IPV4, IPV6, Switching, Routing, DHCP, WiFi, Structured Cabling, etc.)
    • System Audits & Site Surveys 
  • Digital Buildings / IoT Industry training and professional qualifications 
  • Construction Industry Health & Safety Qualification (CSCS or equivalent) and understanding of H&S RAMS 
  • Experience as working as part of a Design Team to develop coordinated designs, including: 
    • Client requirements gathering and documentation 
    • Technical Submittal Creation / Review 
    • SoW and Specification Development 
  • Competent using Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office software applications 

In addition to the above, it is desirable if the Lead Consultant (Digital Buildings) has experience or qualifications in the design, delivery and operation of Digital Buildings / IoT related systems: 

  • IoT and Industry 4.0 technologies including Cloud Platforms (Google, Microsoft, Amazon), JSON, UDMI, APIs, Data Lake, Data Analytics, Data / Object Modelling, Object Oriented Design  
  • AutoCAD / BIM / Visio 
  • Project Management (Waterfall / Agile, AgilePM, Kanban, Scrum, PRINCE2, PPM, or similar)
  • Project proposal development, estimating and presentation 
  • BREEAM / LEED, Sustainability and Building Performance Evaluation / Optimisation 
  • RIBA Stages of Work or international equivalents 
  • Construction Projects and
