BWXT is currently seeking an Information Technology and Cyber Enginee for its Advanced Technologies location in Lynchburg, VA!

BWXT’s Advanced Technologies (AT) group researches, designs, and develops innovative new nuclear reactors, nuclear rocket propulsion systems, and radioisotope production systems for both internal and external customers.

 

BWXT Advanced Technologies (AT) is seeking an Information Technology and Cyber Engineer with a background in Windows and LINUX system administration. 

 

The successful candidate will be responsible for the oversight, maintenance, and operation of manufacturing systems, including various type of servers, workstations, and PLC based manufacturing systems.  As an IT/Cyber engineer, the person will also be responsible for working to support a variety of corporate IT, business segment manufacturing, and program deliverable systems. These systems will be managed to federal and contractual requirements. This will require regular interaction with IT staff and coordination with Cyber Security personnel to ensure that all the necessary policies are implemented to provide appropriate levels of system security. 

 

The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated and experienced in both Windows Server and LINUX system administration and interested in achieving excellence while working effectively with minimal supervision.

Job Description / Duties

  • Assisting with the security posture and functionality of the business systems and networks through security scans, group policy management, and controlled rollout of system updates for AT specific program requirements.
  • Assisting with government audits, investigations, and federal compliance checks across several networks within the AT business segment.
  • Engineering solutions and identifying challenges related to design, technical bulletins, and help desk tickets involving servers, workstations, and industrial controls for AT programs.
  • Developing and supporting cyber security and IT policies that support mission critical objectives for AT based on program contract and federal requirements.
  • Supporting various LINUX systems, including performing updates, adding and removing users, maintaining security group assignments for projects on the various systems, and assessing, maintaining, and installing software packages as required to support the AT business segment.

 

Job Qualifications / Requirements:

  • A minimum of a hIgh school diploma / equivalent is required.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or IT related field is preferred.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years’ of related experience.
  • Related project/program management experience managing concurrent multiple complex IT projects (Applications, ERP, Infrastructure, Acquisitions, Cyber Security) is preferred.
  • Experience with Windows Server and LINUX system architectures, including technology infrastructure, data, and applications.
  • Understanding of group policy management, role-based access control, and security groups.
  • Familiarity with LINUX scripting, package maintenance and update processes, network configuration, file systems, user account management, and group and system security policies
  • Understanding of maintenance guidelines in a live manufacturing environment
  • Excellent communication skills in order to effectively interact with end users, local Management, and Information Technology (IT) personnel.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information.
  • Additional Desired Skillsets.
  • CISSP or Security + Certification.
  • Experience in cyber security with DoD controls.
  • Experience in government audits and compliance-based environments.
  • Working knowledge of the application of security policies on LINUX systems, including SELINUX and DISA STIGs.
  • Experience in networking and industrial controls.
  • Certification as a Red Hat System Administrator or Engineer.
  • Prior experience in the nuclear energy industry with an understanding of software quality assurance controls.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • If required, must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance.

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $47,000 and $71,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
