Network Security Infrastructure Automation Engineer IV

The Network Security Infrastructure Automation Engineer IV uses initiative and standard programming practices to ensure the stability and security of Rackspace’s automated solutions. Provides a high level of technical support through the ownership of complex automations that enable Rackspace to better serve our customers. Applies creative problem-solving techniques to identify the source of problems, while at the same time keeping the customer aware of every step along the way. Responsible for adhering to company security policies and procedures and any other relevant policies and standards as directed.

Key Responsibilities

• Other Incidental tasks related to the job, as necessary.
• Lead the development and implementation of system enhancements that will improve the capabilities, performance, and reliability of automations
• Coordinate the order and execution of the development, upgrading, monitoring, testing and servicing of automations
• Define, design, and implement automated solutions for the functional area
• Create action requests and purchase requirements; negotiate and place orders with common carriers
• Lead the build and support of automations for deployment, diagnostics, and remediations run on customer devices including bulk and on demand solutions for end-user use
• Drives and leads design initiative for complex solutions
• Oversee testing plans and testing against and documentation of automation scripts and programs
• Design robust, scalable, secure, and globalized features
• Demonstrate sound rationale in making design trade-offs for feature areas across complex solutions
• Identify risks and dependencies for feature; effectively manage dependencies for feature areas across complex solutions
• Drive continuous adoption and integration of relevant new technologies into design
• Efficiently implement or lead the implementation of complex solutions with minimal technical debt
• Lead the development of new and alternate ideas, approaches, and designs to evolve own feature area or to solve problems encountered in own feature area
• Coach, mentor and assists Rackers in the organization
• Collaborate and share knowledge with other Engineers and Administrators on the support floor

Knowledge

• Advanced knowledge of Network fundamentals, including diagnostics with OS system tools
• Advanced knowledge of server DNS, SMTP, and TCP/IP
• Advanced knowledge of DNS, including diagnostics with system tools
• Advanced scripting competency in one or more of the following languages: PowerShell, Python, PHP, Go
• Advanced knowledge of Project Management methodologies
• Advanced understanding of services and protocols commonly used in hosting environments: web servers, database servers, mail servers, name servers
• Advanced knowledge in the application of current and emerging network software and hardware technology and protocols
• Requires specialized depth and/or breadth of expertise in own job discipline or field
• Interprets internal/external business challenges and recommends best practices to improve products, processes or services

Education Required

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems, or a related technical field
• At the Manager's discretion, 4 years of additional related experience may substitute for the degree requirement; if substitution allowed, regional equivalent to High School Diploma is required.

Certifications

• Requires MCSE for Windows specialization
• Requires RHCE for Linux specialization
• Prefer Specialist Certifications that apply to role

Experience Required

• 8 – 11 years of technical engineering and automation experience
• A minimum of 6 years of automation engineering experience with server deployment, diagnostics, and remediations

Physical Demands

• General office environment: no special physical demands required. May require long periods of sitting and viewing a computer monitor. Schedule flexibility to include working weekends and/or evenings and holidays as required by the business for 24/7 operations. Must be able to lift 50 lbs over-head.

Travel

• Occasional domestic/international travel, less than 50%
