The Role:

Amazon is hiring a Security Engineering Manager. In this role, you will manage a team of security engineers who are responsible for providing security direction for Amazon’s Alexa Cloud Infrastructure. This is a role for someone who wants to invent security solutions for a relatively new technology domain. You will define security priorities for the Alexa virtual-assistant platform.

In this role, you will manage a team of security engineers who support the services teams building new features & evolving the the existing infrastructure of Alexa. While you will work on problems related to IoT & edge devices, the role is oriented towards securing cloud infrastructure. You will provide prioritization & direction for the security engineering team. Your team will help establish a strong culture of security throughout the Alexa organization. You will help development teams work through novel security problems associated with secure data handling & service hardening for infrastructure that processes Alexa Utterances.

The team’s goals are to enable business growth and drive innovation while keeping our customer’s safe. Your team will have direct impact on the customer experience. Your team will support architecture reviews, code reviews and threat modeling in close partnership with product teams. Your team will help the various services teams within Alexa secure their systems and customer experiences in a manner that upholds our high bar for customer trust. Your team will help develop & deliver security training that is relevant to the cutting edge threats that Voice Assistants face. Finally- your team will work to identify & develop self-service security automation solutions that enables developers to discover their own mistakes. In this role, you will empower others to do good security work. You will partner and work across disciplines including engineering, marketing, legal and business. Above all, you feel strongly about protecting customers.

Note: While the majority of our Security/Privacy roles are based in the Bay Area, CA and Seattle, WA areas, by applying to this position your application will be considered for all locations we hire for in the United States, including but not limited to: Seattle, WA; Bellevue, WA; Sunnyvale, CA, Austin TX.

Basic Qualifications


- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, related field or relevant work experience
- Experience working with issues related to information security and privacy
- 7+ years of industry experience with hands-on engineering experience
- 3+ years of risk assessment and enabling organizations making decisions
- 3+ years managing and building teams (including coaching and mentoring)
- 3+ years of experience communicating technical concepts to a non-technical audience

Preferred Qualifications

- MBA or Master’s degree
- A self-starter who can take general direction and produce specific results. When the resources are not immediately at-hand, you enjoy reaching out to a wide array of functional groups across an organization to get the information you need.
- Experience managing cross functional technology, product management, QA and testing teams to deliver complex products
- Strong analytical and quantitative skills with the ability to use data and metrics to back up assumptions and recommendations and drive actions
- Experience triaging security risks/vulnerabilities and ensuring that they are properly understood by the business and fixed and/or mitigated.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
