Corvus is reimagining commercial insurance at the convergence of three of the hottest areas in technology: data science, cyber security and machine learning. Data Scientists at Corvus are a key component of our mission to find and use alternative sources of data that can help our clients mitigate risk and make the world a safer place.  

We’re looking for a Cyber Security Engineer who isn’t intimidated by the prospect of working with large, messy data sets. You’ll play a critical role in defining how data science can solve business problems, and will be responsible for the full data science life cycle, including defining the problem, prototyping data pipelines and building and implementing data science and machine learning products into client facing systems. This is a new and highly visible role in which you’ll work closely with Product Managers, Software Engineers and Underwriters to expand the reach and impact of our data products. 

Responsibilities

  • Support the data science team’s cyber data acquisition and enrichment efforts, through prototyping new data products and supporting partnership efforts
  • Contribute to our cyber security risk assessment products and communicate insights to underwriters and policyholders
  • Collaborate with the Threat Intelligence team to build data driven dynamic underwriting and pricing tools
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and the Insurance Team to translate business problems into data problems, and solve them
  • Mentor peers on the technology team about security industry trends, and act as a security data subject matter expert 
  • Clearly communicate analysis and train stakeholders to use our security data products

Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience in analytical information security roles, including threat hunting, cyber threat intelligence, red teaming or penetration testing. 
  • Knowledge of current security trends, threats, and mitigations
  • Experience working with cyber threat intelligence data, including open source and other common industry vendors
  • Ability to prototype security data products and integrate with external APIs utilizing Python, Bash or other scripting languages
  • Expertise with SQL or other database querying language 
  • You are curious and able to adapt to different domains

We are a dynamic team of entrepreneurial professionals with backgrounds in insurance and technology creating a commercial insurance company that combines the latest technology with traditional insurance. You will be instrumental in building software systems that create actionable data for our users.

Responsibilities

  • You will be responsible for shipping high-quality, production-ready code

  • You will write GraphQL APIs and backend services in Elixir using Phoenix and Absinthe

  • You will build user interfaces in Elm and Sass

  • You will work closely with designers and product managers to understand the problems of our end users (insurance brokers, insurance buyers, and Corvus staff)

  • You will participate in customer interviews and user testing

  • You will make and review Pull Requests

  • You will actively seek to be a better engineer and help others get better

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of experience developing and deploying advanced web based applications and services into staging and production environments.

  • Desire to immerse yourself in functional languages: Elixir and Elm

  • You write readable, quality code and make sure your tests are green before merging into the main branch; you provide code reviews for your fellow team members

  • You appreciate Devops (Ansible, Puppet, Docker, etc) and the massive scalability provided by cloud computing and Amazon EC2

  • You're comfortable working at an early stage startup and are ready to build a greenfield system (no legacy codebase).You collaborate well with others and are dedicated to the company's success

We believe in paying equitably for performance. Actual salaries will vary and may be
above or below the range based on various factors including but not limited to
experience, skills, internal equity, market data, and geography. Please note that the
salary range that follows is a good faith estimate for this position only. The base
salary range for this position is: $127,000 - $147,000, subject to final approval.  This position may
be eligible for performance-based incentives.
