Nomura has a robust global Information Security department, members of which are located in all of its major regions, namely Japan, Americas, India, Asia Excluding Japan (AeJ) and EMEA. This newly formed role will report directly to the CISO located in Japan and will be a senior member of the Global Information Security Leadership team. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to join our team as the Global Head of Data and Identity Protection. In this role, you will be responsible for leading and managing all aspects of data and identity protection across our organization on a global scale. You will play a critical role in safeguarding our sensitive data and ensuring the security and integrity of our systems and information assets.


Key objectives critical to success
As the Global Head of Data and Identity protections, you will be responsible for leading and overseeing the data security function within the Information Security department. Successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate relevant experience working in a dynamic environment dealing with complex data security and identity protection challenges, communicate and\ collaborate closely with all key business and technology stakeholders globally to develop and implement data security strategies, policies, and controls to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and
availability of data assets.


This role is hands-on as the Data and Identity strategy and roadmap are being developed. It requires the development and implementation of processes, policies, standards, and solutions in collaboration with the Global Heads of Information Security and key stakeholders (e.g., IT, business, legal, HR, compliance).


The role will require extensive experience in data security at an enterprise level and -depth understanding of data security data principles, technologies and best practices. This is a leadership position that requires previous experience with managing global teams and deep understanding of data security solutions/products and technology. An important aspect of the role is to mentor and coach staff in becoming security professionals in data and identity practices.

 

Roles & Responsibilities:

 

- Lead the global data security and identity protection function to protect the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of data assets, including the development and implementation of a comprehensive data protection strategy to prevent unauthorized access, disclosure, and misuse of sensitive data.
- Collaborate with key business and technology stakeholders to develop the relevant data security and identity protection frameworks, policies, standards and controls, including classifying and protecting data. Establish data governance policies and procedures that comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
- Design and implement robust data protection capabilities including data classification, encryption, tokenization, and access control measures to protect data at rest, in transit, and in use.
- Lead the development and implementation of identity and access management (IAM) solutions to ensure appropriate access rights and permissions are granted to authorized users.
- Conduct regular risk assessments and security audits to identify vulnerabilities and weaknesses in data and identity protection measures and design mitigation strategies.
- Provide strategic guidance and direction on data classification, retention, and disposal practices to ensure compliance with data privacy regulations.
- Stay up-to-date on emerging threats and trends in data security and identity protection to proactively mitigate risks and enhance cybersecurity posture. Continuously develop and mature the program in line with industry best practice, data security trends, technologies and evolving threat landscape. (on premise and cloud)
- Provide subject matter expertise to incident response and breach management efforts to contain and mitigate data breaches and security incidents.
- Develop and deliver auditable and measurable data protection training and awareness programs to educate Nomura employees on data security best practices and policies in collaboration with the Global Head of Security Awareness and Training.
- Serve as a subject matter expert on data protection and identity management issues and represent the Nomura and Information Security at internal and external forums.

 

Mind Set:
Technical Skills/ Competencies/ Governance, Risk and Controls/ Stakeholder Management
 Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
 Cyber Security related qualification (s) such as CISSP, CISM, CISA, CRISC
 Minimum of 10 years of experience in data security, with at least 5 years in a leadership role.
 Deep understanding of data security principles, practices, technologies, and regulations

 Experience in developing and implementing data security and data protection programs at a global enterprise level
 Knowledge of established information security frameworks and standards (i.e. NIST, ISO2700, CSA, SCF) and their application into diverse environments.
 Strong knowledge of data protection laws and regulations, such as GDPR, HIPAA, and CCPA.
 Ability to act pro-actively to ensure and effectively collaborate with regional and global counterparts
 Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and influence; and self-motivated
 Committed to continuous improvement for team and self.
 Ability to run with a number of tasks concurrently and manage expectations appropriately
 Experience with data compliance standards and regulations
 Strong knowledge of encryption standards and technologies, such as AES, RSA, and PKI.
 Experience with developing requirements and models for the future-state, current state and gaps in data
 Strong communication, leadership, and collaboration skills.
 Ability to influence and drive change in data security practices.
