Job Purpose

The DevOps and IoT Engineer will manage, develop, and enhance the infrastructure and connectivity of medical devices within our healthcare technology ecosystem. This role ensures seamless integration, operation, and security of IoT-enabled medical devices, optimizing their performance, and supporting continuous delivery and deployment processes.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Management:
    • Design, implement, and maintain cloud based solutions for IoT medical devices.
    • Ensure high availability, scalability, and security of our IoT platforms.
  • IoT Device Management:
    • Implement, configure and manage IoT device connectivity solutions (both device- and cloud-side).
    • Implement solutions for remote firmware and software updates and monitor their execution
    • Manage software configuration for medical devices.
    • Plan and execute software maintenance and deployment.
  • CI/CD:
    • Develop and manage CI/CD pipelines for IoT applications and firmware updates.
    • Automate testing-, deployment-, and monitoring-processes.
  • Device-to-Cloud Communication:
    • Develop and maintain device-to-cloud communication solutions (both device- and cloud-side).
    • Evaluate, specify, configure and maintain the operating systems for our medical devices.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Implement security measures to protect patient data and device integrity.
    • Ensure compliance with information security regulations (specifically those applying to healthcare systems).
  • Collaboration and Support:
    • Work with developers, hardware engineers, service personnel and healthcare professionals to ensure functionality, seamless device integration and maximum reliability.
    • Provide technical support and troubleshooting.
  • Monitoring and Reporting:
    • Implement tools to monitor the performance of IoT devices and cloud infrastructure.
    • Generate performance, security, and compliance reports.
    • Enable the generation of audit trails, document solutions and support regular company audits.

Qualifications

  • Education and Experience:
    • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
    • 3 to 5 years of experience with DevOps and IoT on complex hardware system.
    • Experience in healthcare, medical device, pharmaceutical or another regulated industry such as automative, aerospace or defense is mandatory.
    • Experience with digital twin/IoT devices and device-to-cloud solutions, working on both the cloud infrastructure and the device itself.
    • Experience with resource constrained hardware and/or custom (embedded) hardware is a strong plus.
    • Certification as CISSP and/or AWS DevOps Engineer is a plus.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficiency in designing, implementing and maintaining cloud based solutions for IoT ecosystems (e.g. using AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
    • Strong understanding of IoT principles, topologies and paradigms
    • Strong understanding of communication protocols including specific and generic protocols and solutions (e.g., MQTT, SQS, TCP/IP, HTTPS).
    • Experience with virtualization and containerization solutions (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes), as well as with CI/CD , infrastructure-as-code and IoT management tools (e.g., Ansible, AWS Greengrass).
    • Strong skills in Linux, including customization of distributions (e.g., Ubuntu, Yocto), scripting (Bash) and automatization.
  • Security and Compliance:
    • Understanding of cybersecurity principles and best practices for IoT.
    • Knowledge of healthcare regulations (e.g., HIPAA, FDA) and/or information security according to ISO/IEC 27001 are a plus.
  • Additional Skills:
    • Able to prioritize and execute work-packages independently
    • Able to communicate clearly and to collaborate with multiple stakeholders and teams from different disciplines (e.g., SW development, production, operations, cybersecurity).
