Job Description:

The Oregon Department of Justice is looking to hiring an experienced professional to join our dynamic team as the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) (Information Systems Specialist 8). This pivotal role is integral to the management, development, leadership, and implementation of security, compliance, and privacy requirements for our agency.   

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive security strategies and policies to safeguard agency assets, including data, systems, and networks.

  • Lead the team in providing guidance and oversight to ensure effective security operations and incident response.

  • Oversee compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and standards including CJIS, HIPAA, IRS Safeguards, and other state, federal, and industry specific requirements.

  • Collaborate and represent the Oregon Department of Justice with other state, federal, and private partners.

  • Ensuring the integration of security measures into all aspects of the organization.

  • Prepare and present regular reports to executive management on the status of information security and compliance initiatives.

REQUIRED ATTRIBUTES AND SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Seven (7) years of information systems experience in the strategic oversight of a organization information security network and security operations. Education will be counted as experience if degree was in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or if a two (2) year accredited vocational training program was completed in information technology or related field.

  • Associate’s Degree (or 2-year vocational training in an accredited training program in information technology or related field) = Two (2) Years experience.

  • Bachelor's Degree = Four (4) Years experience.

  • Master’s Degree = Six (6) Years experience.

AND

  • Finalists must pass a comprehensive employment reference check and fingerprint-based criminal background check. A driver history check will be included for positions requiring state vehicle driving privileges. Adverse findings will be evaluated to determine eligibility for the position.

  • This position is a hybrid of in-office and remote work. There is a requirement to have the ability to report in the Salem office minimum two days a week, and as business needs. The finalist must reside in the state of Oregon or SW Washington by their first day.

  • Ability to work independently or on a team as a partner to collectively achieve goals.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain great working relationships with all levels of staff in the Department.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to shift priorities quickly while continuing to make progress on all work assignments.

  • Contribute to the development of policies, standards, procedures, and guidelines.

  • Effectively communicate at all levels of the organization.

  • Certifications in CISSP, GSEC, GISP (preference may be given to candidates who already have one or more of these).
