Aleut Federal is seeking a Technical Writer to assist the customer in developing strategic visions and comprehensive documentation that meets organizational standards. The Technical Writer will gain a deep understanding of products and services, translating complex information into simple, polished, and engaging content. They will create user-friendly content tailored to the target audience, develop and maintain a detailed database of reference materials, including research, usability tests, and design specifications, evaluate current content to develop innovative improvements, and collaborate with leadership to support organizational strategic planning. To ensure maximum flexibility and efficiency and to encourage cross training, employees will be assigned additional duties as deemed necessary. 

Responsibilities 

  • Research, outline, write, and edit content, working closely with various departments to understand project requirements 
  • Gather information from subject-matter experts and develop, organize, and write procedure manuals, technical specifications, and process documentation 
  • Work with development and support leads to identify documentation repositories, revise and edit, and determine best solutions for data compilation and centralized storage 
  • Research, create, and maintain information architecture templates that adhere to organizational and legal standards and allow for easy data migration 
  • Develop content in alternative media forms for maximum usability, with consistent voice across all documentation 
  • Prepare instruction manuals 
  • Disseminate technical information in easy-to-understand language for a non-technical audience 
  • Have technical accuracy in writing user documentation 
  • Create software documentation after a thorough collaboration with subject matter experts and technical staff 
  • Create product manuals with screenshots and tutorials 
  • Write documentation for internal teams such as developers and programmers 
  • Communicate complex ideas in a concise manner 

 

Required skills and qualifications 

  • Current Top Secret with SCI Eligibility 
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science, or other related disciplines or four or more years of experience as an effective technical writer 
  • Proven ability to quickly learn and understand complex subject matter 
  • Experience in writing documentation and procedure manuals for various audiences 
  • Superb written communication skills, with a keen eye for detail 
  • Experience in working with engineers to improve user experience (ex: design, UI), refine content, and create visuals and diagrams for technical support content 
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously 
  • Understand and explain complex technical concepts 
  • Strong research and analytical skills 
  • Comprehensive working knowledge of MS Office products 
  • Detail-oriented

 

Preferred skills and qualifications 

  • Firm understanding of SDLC (systems development lifecycle) 
  • Previous experience with policy & standard operating procedure development 
  • IT Certifications a plus (Security+, CISSP, CISM, etc.) 

Locations:

  • This position will be expected to perform duties at any customer facilities within Colorado Springs. 

Rate: 

  • $90K - $115K
