Our Sustainability and Carbon team advises clients on how they can decarbonise their operations alongside increasing performance across other areas of sustainability. Some of our work includes industry-leading Decarbonisation / Net Zero Roadmaps, Whole Life Carbon Assessments, Sustainability Assessments and Carbon Accountancy amongst many others – all while leveraging the latest digital tools to optimise our projects. Due to the overarching nature of sustainability and the need for far reaching action, this enables the team to work across all markets and sectors; large scale energy projects, water, rail, highways, airports, etc with some of our key clients including UK Local Authorities, Network Rail, TfL, Highways England, Environment Agency, and water and energy companies.

Our existing Sustainability and Carbon Practice comprises of professionals based in the UK and India. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with a range of project teams and colleagues from different divisions, throughout the project lifecycle as well as at a strategic level. They will hold overall accountability for technical leadership, driving delivery and quality assurance of packages of work produced by our Sustainability and Carbon GTC team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a candidate looking to take on leadership responsibilities within this dynamic and rapidly growing space through working on high profile infrastructure projects throughout the UK where capability and an eagerness to lead will be both recognised and rewarded.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Technical Leadership of our GTC team in India, on the technical aspects of carbon, sustainability, and net zero for our existing portfolio of major infrastructure projects and strategic clients. 
  • Leading and driving delivery of packages of work produced by our team in India.
  • Support/develop innovative carbon, sustainable design and management approaches, methods, and solutions. 
  • Assurance of deliverables. Manage and check/review the carbon and sustainability outputs from the GTC team.  
  • When required, represent the company at external networks and continue to build their personal, team and company reputation. 
  • Support bid proposals including coordinating various authors’ inputs, client management and submission. 

Requirements: 

  • The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in an environmental / engineering related discipline and will be registered with a recognised relevant professional body – a master’s degree would be advantageous.  
  • You will be enthusiastic and have thorough knowledge across a variety of sustainability disciplines, particularly carbon, and a willingness to become involved in a broad selection of projects. 
  • Extensive prior experience in some of the following is essential: carbon accounting / reporting, decarbonisation/net zero roadmaps, sustainability assessments, whole life carbon, sustainability reporting, sustainability strategy. 
  • Have a good understanding of carbon assessment, in particular low carbon design and resource efficiency, in an infrastructure project context. 
  • Possess strong interpersonal skills and experience working collaboratively with a range of technical specialists at different levels. 
  • Strong stakeholder engagement  
  • Be highly self-motivated, possessing strong enthusiasm and commitment to delivering sustainable outcomes. 
  • Be flexible, adaptable, and prepared to take on new challenges.
  • Experience in leading and overseeing delivery of packages of work by more junior members of the team.
  • Experience in authoring technical reports and deliverables. Have very good written English and communication skills which can be tailored to a range of audiences, seniorities and technical competencies. 
  • Experience in checking and reviewing output of others to ensure client requirements have been met, and quality processes have been followed.
  • Have understanding of UK sustainability and environmental regulations, guidance and standards. Knowledge of international regulatory frameworks, guidance and standards would be an advantage.
