Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Linux System Administrator to join our team in the Fort Meade MD. / Annapolis Junction MD., area. Our dynamic team delivers information security solutions that facilitate secure data flows and the detection/prevention of unauthorized behaviors, performs system security vulnerability assessments and solution development, provide enterprise-level network, server, desktop, and application security services.

The ideal candidate will possess Linux system administration experience in a Linux environment (Linux, Redhat Linux, CentOS).

 

The Linux System Administrator duties may include but are not limited to:

  • Provide support for implementation, troubleshooting, and maintenance of IT systems.
  • Provides Tier 1 (Help Desk) and Tier 2 (Escalation) problem identification, diagnosis and resolution of problems.
  • Provide support to IT systems including Day-to-day operations, monitoring, and problem resolution for all of the client problems.
  • Provides problem identification, diagnosis, and resolutions of problems.
  • Provide support for the dispatch system and hardware problems and remain involved in the resolution process.
  • Provide support for the escalation and communication of status to agency management and internal customers.
  • Performs system maintenance by reviewing error logs.
  • Manages IT system infrastructure and any processes related to these systems.
  • Configure and manage UNIX and Windows (or other applicable) operating systems and installs/loads operating system software, troubleshoot, maintain integrity of and configure network components along with implementing operating systems enhancements to improve reliability and performance.
  • Installs and configures Linux systems including back-end databases and scripts.
  • Analyze and resolve complex problems associated with server hardware, applications, and software integration.
  • Optimize system operations and resource utilization and perform system capacity analysis and planning.
  • Creates system backups.

**This role requires 100% on-site support M-F**

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Active/current TS/SCI security clearance with a current polygraph is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline from an accredited college or university with 10 years of experience as a Systems Administrator in programs and contracts of similar scope, type and complexity is required. Five (5) years of additional systems administrator experience may be substituted in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
  • A current/valid DoD 8570 compliance with IAT Level 2 is required.
  • Demonstrated Linux system administration experience in a Linux environment (Linux, Redhat Linux, CentOS).
  • Familiar with patching and updating Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with back-end IT support, installation, configuration, and maintenance of Linux operating systems.
  • Experience with VMWare
  • Exposure to AWS.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with six (6) years of relevant experience; PhD and three (3) years of experience.
  • Makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery.
  • A current/valid Linux Certification in one or more of the following: CompTIA Linux+, GIAC Certified UNIX Security Administrator (GCUX), Linux Foundation Certified Engineer (LFCE), Linux Foundation Certified System Administrator, Oracle Certified Professional (OCP), Oracle Certified Specialist (OCS), or Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA).
  • Experience in Linux automation using Ansible.
  • Experience in Creating and using Containers in a Linux Environment.
  • Experience with scripting in Python, Linux shell.
  • Experience with Network Scripting: Python, Java, JavaScript, Perl, Unix, BASH, C#, C++, SQL
  • Experience with Atlassian Tools (Jira/Confluence/Jenkins).
  • Development experience with Agile.
  • Familiar and/or experience in Security information and event management (SIEM)
  • AWS GovCloud, AWS cloud network design experience is beneficial.

Target Salary Range

$146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
