The TeamThe Detection Engineering Team is responsible for analyzing high-risk attack paths that could substantially impact Netflix and creating focused detections to reduce risk to the business. This is facilitated by partnerships with stakeholder teams, stakeholder domain expertise, and individual contributor creativity.
The RoleWe are looking for an experienced detection engineer to help mature and expand our detection frameworks and portfolio. Our team's focus is to create and continually improve detections that run on our own platforms to minimize Netflix's risk by proactively surfacing malicious or anomalous behavior to identify attacker presence or activity. We are a tight-knit team that provides value by creating compensating detective controls to shorten the time to discovery. Using a risk-based prioritization mindset, we focus our efforts on generating the largest impact and benefits for Netflix.

Desired background
- You have at least 5 years of experience writing detections at scale using a detection-as-code approach.
- You have significant experience working in an AWS environment, and it's nice to have experience creating and tuning AWS detections.
- You are passionate about using your software engineering skills in pursuit of reducing risk and improving the security space.
- You have experience working in a continuous integration and continuous delivery, cloud-based environment.
- You are adept at working with Python in a big data environment and are skilled at using SQL to query data. Experience with Java and/or Jupyter Notebooks is a plus.
- Experience with ML is a plus, but not required.
- You are familiar with computer and network security concepts.
- You are comfortable working on ambitious projects with a very small, tight-knit team.
- You operate effectively across teams and disciplines in highly ambiguous and rapidly changing environments.
- You have excellent written and verbal communication skills.
