Department Overview:

This team monitors suspicious events from multiple sources and proactively puts prevention in place. The team has a huge influence on our business through protecting customer’s info and business information.

 

Key Responsibilities:

This position will involve security research to identify new and evolving threat patterns, in addition to mitigating and preventing these attacks in collaboration with other teams and vendors. The role involves analyzing available data sources using tools such as Splunk and SQL to then develop actionable recommendations based on what is observed.

 

Security Research

  • Identification of unknown attacks by analyzing patterns of abuse and differentiating attacks from legitimate requests using available data sources.

  • Proactively monitor and investigate evolutions in known persistent attacks against our network

  • Investigate the methods of attacks observed or hinted at from the data leading to possible exploits or bypasses in our code or security tools. This may involve intercepting, modifying, and manipulating web traffic in order to replicate observed attacks and potential future evolutions of them.

  • Lead security investigations based on inquiries from other organization within security, legal, Customer Service or Public Relations

 

Attack Mitigation and Prevention

  • Manage, customize and configure security tools in collaboration with third party vendors

  • Collaborate with other teams responsible for other security tools and provide feedback and recommendations to them

  • Work with engineering teams to address security vulnerabilities and to improve application logs to better identify future attacks

  • Provide input on new features and possibly threats with upcoming features based on knowledge and experience gained with security research

  • Mentor others in understanding, detecting, and monitoring areas with potential security threats
     

What we are looking for:

  • 5+ years of experience in IT security research and security operation including various fraud and abuse activities

  • 5+ years of experience with Splunk including strong analytical skills using Splunk to rapidly develop functional queries and dashboards

  • 3+ years of experience in SQL design, development and validation (QA)

  • Experience with web debugging tools (e.g, Burp or Charles proxy)

  • Familiarity with programming language concepts (Java, C, JavaScript, Python, etc)

  • Ability to work both independently and with related teams including software engineering, server operation, business stakeholders, customer support and management.

  • Good written and oral communication skills including but not limited to documenting and presenting

  • Understanding of common web protocols (e.g, HTTP)
     

Desired Skills/Knowledge:

  • Ability to work with Data Volumes in TB and prepare optimized searches

  • Experience in gaming industry

  • Knowledge in PlayStation services

At SIE, we consider several factors when setting each role’s base pay range, including the competitive benchmarking data for the market and geographic location.

Please note that the base pay range may vary in line with our hybrid working policy and individual base pay will be determined based on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location.

The estimated base pay range for this role is listed below.$187,700—$281,500 USD
