Education:           BS in Information Systems, Computer Science or other related field required; MS in Information Assurance is preferred.

Experience:      College graduate or equivalent; however, at the hiring manager’s discretion, work experience may be substituted for education.

Position Summary:  This unique opportunity is open to for an Associate Information Security Analyst looking to pursue a career in information security. This full-time opportunity will provide the applicant entry-level information security experience with progressive responsibility and experience.  The primary responsibilities will be working with the information security operations team, to include monitoring computer networks for security issues, installing / testing security software, document security issues or breaches, perform continuous data monitoring, and maintaining/enhancing the overall Center security posture.  This position will be hands-on support of the various missions of the EROS (Earth Resources Observation and Science) Center (http://eros.usgs.gov/), located near Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  

Core Responsibilities: 

  • Monitor networks for security breaches and investigate a violation when one occurs
  • Prepare reports that document security breaches and the extent of the damage caused by the breaches
  • Document security breaches and assess the damage they may cause
  • Assists with investigating virus and malware alerts to determine origin and frequency
  • Develop security standards and best practices
  • Assists with reviewing security log files
  • Attend department meetings to address security issues and solutions
  • Assists with other information security related duties
  • Participate in information security related reviews
  • Ensure proper processes are followed and documentation is properly maintained
  • Perform analysis of problems (root cause analysis)

Required Skills:

  • Excellent writing skills
  • Understanding of firewalls, proxies, SIEM, antivirus, and IDPS concepts
  • Basic information security / information systems methodology knowledge
  • Knowledgeable with security control standards
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
  • Willingness to learn

Desired Skills:

  • Unix/Linux knowledge
  • Scripting knowledge

The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for facility access and user accounts.

Experience and/or Education in lieu of these qualifications will be reviewed for applicability to meet these requirements.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential
  • This role is in a hybrid environment, allowing for the collaboration with our customer and team.
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and maintain a national agency check and background investigation after hire to obtain a badge for government facility access and user account
