Job Description

The Data Privacy Manager is responsible for supporting privacy compliance for FirstRand Commercial Segment and reports to the Data Privacy Officer.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Taking an active lead role in investigating privacy incidents or data breaches.
  • Taking an active lead role in ensuring legislative requirements are fulfilled in the instance of data breaches including review and sign-off of data subject letters, notice to the Information Regulator and any other communications pertaining to data breaches.
  • Attend to and respond to data subject complaints, queries, or requests for information.
  • Monitoring data privacy incidents and assisting with investigation and root cause analysis.
  • Reviewing the use of data assets and adherence to data privacy incident management governance standards.
  • Asses new and existing services for their compliance with privacy regulations.
  • Conduct reviews of risk assessments relating to data use, including Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs), Legitimate Interest Assessments (LIAs), Third Party Risk Assessments (3PRA) and any other assessments the Bank governance structure may mandate from time to time.
  • Drive the completion of records of processing activities including Data Inventory Mapping.
  • Engaging with a range of operations personnel to improve data privacy and data governance practices.
  • Provide guidance and advice on privacy compliance matters.
  • Create standardized training materials for the segment.
  • Provide training on data privacy compliance.
  • Reporting on privacy risks.

Key Skills

  • The role requires someone who can work with a range of operations and senior personnel to ensure data is governed appropriately.
  • Ability to coordinate with a network of Risk Managers to meet the data governance requirements of FirstRand.
  • Good interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a variety of technical and non-technical business personnel.
  • Good report generating and presentation skills (MS Excel and MS PowerPoint or anything relevant).
  • Organization and time management, including working to deadlines with multiple deliverables.

Qualifications

Desirable

  • Privacy credentials (e.g., CIPP/E)
  • Degree in Law, specializing in Data Privacy
  • Financial Services Experience

Essential

  • BCom Law, LLB, BA Law or Compliance Diploma or equivalent

Experience:

  • 3–5-year knowledge and experience of privacy regulations, namely POPIA
  • Experience of documentation of data assets, including for regulatory compliance purposes.
