Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a Senior Network Defense Engineer who will become part of Peraton’s Department of State (DoS) Diplomatic Security Cyber Mission (DSCM) program providing leading cyber and technology security experience to enable innovative, effective and secure business processes. Peraton’s DSCM program encompasses technical, engineering, data analytics, cyber security, management, operational, logistical and administrative support to aid and advise DoS Cyber & Technology Security (CTS) Directorate.  This includes protecting a global cyber infrastructure comprising networks, systems, information, and mobile devices all while identifying and responding to cyber risks and threats.    

 

Location: Rosslyn, VA or Beltsville, MD

 

Role & Responsibilities:

  • As a Network Defense Engineer, you will provide expertise in evaluation, design, and integration of Network Security monitoring solutions for a globally diverse network.
  • Interface with internal and external organization to understand network design and configurations to develop the best solution for enhancing cyber monitoring capabilities.
  • Conduct research and evaluation of vendor offering and support the design and implementation of the next generation of defensive monitoring tools.
  • Support the development of procedures for managing and enhancing the capabilities in the solution and will support the integration with other department tools to increase defensive capabilities.

 

Qualifications

Required: 

  • Bachelor's degree and minimum of 14 years experience; or, a Masters degree and 12 years; or, a PhD with 9 years of relevant experience. An additional 4 years of experience will be considered in lieu of a degree.
  • Possess ONE of the following certifications, OR be able to obtain prior to start date: CASP+ CE; CCNP Security; CISA; CISSP (or Associate); CISSP-ISSAP; CISSP-ISSEP; GCED; GCIH
  • Experience in network design, network monitoring, and software systems and technologies that demonstrate the ability to monitor and defend an enterprise network.
  • Strong understanding of LAN and WAN technologies and the Windows and UNIX operating systems.
  • Previous experience with SD-WAN and SSE technologies.
  • In-depth understanding of communication protocols (mainly TCP/IP), web traffic encryption/decryption, PKI and certificates.
  • Experience with network access control model and network security.
  • Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring, and analysis tools.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Knowledge of networking and cloud technologies.
  • Experience conducting market research for cyber monitoring tools and applications.
  • U.S. citizenship and an active Secret security clearance with the ability to obtain a final Top Secret security clearance.

 

Preferred: 

  • Strong knowledge of security monitoring tools with experience developing detection capabilities.
  • Experience with Intrusion Detection/Prevention Systems.
  • Understanding of network encryption.

Target Salary Range

$146,000 - $234,000. This represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
