As a Principal Engineer in Cyber Systems Research, you will be on a mission to ensure our products are the safest from any cyber threats and are certified to be airworthy. You will find holes in the armor through ethical analysis and exploitation of our products. Can you break it and make it better?

Collins Aerospace is seeking experienced cyber systems engineers knowledgeable in embedded system and software design to support a diverse portfolio of research and development activities within our Applied Research & Technology organization.  The primary responsibility of this role is to lead and directly contribute to complex technical development activities in systems and software engineering. The person in this role should be self-motivated, serving as a key technical contributor to new research and innovations in the embedded system security space.  The ideal candidate will possess deep, expert experience in OT security, networks, software drivers, operating systems, firmware development, and embedded systems.  Outside of technical responsibilities, the candidate should be comfortable to collaborate with business partners and customers to identify new research opportunities and develop new technology innovations in securing cyber physical systems. 

What You Will Do:

  • Serve as a key technical contributor for complex software development projects using languages such as C/C++, Java, Python, and others. 

  • Provide subject matter expertise in design and implementation of high assurance, security-critical systems

  • Act as an expert technical advisor to engineering leadership in the area of software security

  • Support teams of software and systems engineers to develop, integrate, and evaluate new cyber security technologies to be deployed within embedded environments

  • Lead technical proposal preparation and the execution of government-sponsored science and technology research

  • The candidate must possess a STEM degree along with a strong understanding of operating systems, radio communication systems, and networking.  The candidate must have at least ten years of embedded systems software engineering experience. 

  • Must be willing and able to travel 10% of the time

Qualifications You Must Have:

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) unless prohibited by local laws/regulations and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience or in absence of a degree, 12 years of relevant experience 

  • U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are authorized to access information under this program/contract 

  • Must have or be capable of obtaining a US Department of Defense (DoD) security clearance.  Candidate selected will be subject to a government security investigation/reinstatement and must meet eligibility requirements

  • 5+ years experience in software development using languages like C++

  • 5+ years experience in networking or network security

Qualifications We Prefer:

  • Have a security accreditation such as CISSP or a Master's degree

  • 2+ years of prior experience performing vulnerability analysis

  • 2+ years of project management experience

  • Prior experience from the Aerospace industry

The salary range for this role is 96,000 USD - 200,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate’s work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
