We're looking for a Director of Application Security & Architecture to join the Cloud Security Organization. You will collaborate with senior leaders to drive Security maturity, implement Security controls, and ensure process excellence as we manage global Security risk and compliance. You will also collaborate with product teams to drive secure & customer-centric product design. You will lead your team to drive cross-functional efforts to operationalize business objectives while minimizing Security risks.

Web3 is the future of crypto and Coinbase Cloud is at the center of Web3. The high level goal of the Coinbase Cloud Security team is to ensure that our customers can trust and securely consume the Coinbase Cloud products and services. As a member of the Coinbase Cloud Security team you’ll play a pivotal role in shaping the way Security scales its programs across Coinbase Cloud. You will join a premier team with one overarching goal: to secure the Coinbase Cloud platform.

What You'll Be Doing (i.e., Job Duties)

  • Support all facets of team management to attract, engage, retain, and nurture teams of outstanding engineers (e.g., recruitment, mentoring, training and development, performance evaluation).
  • Partner with the cloud product & engineering teams and other cross functional partners to develop overall vision, strategy and roadmap for our Cloud Security systems and product suites.
  • Develop a technical roadmap and vision, with guidance to both your team members and your peers.
  • Champion security and operational excellence, establishing metrics and processes for regular assessment and improvement.
  • Establish a solid project framework and excellent delivery processes.
  • Drive an excellent customer experience, continually raising the bar on functionality, usability, and simplicity.
  • Provide security and architectural direction for the development, design, integration, testing, and maintenance of our product suite.
  • Handle technical debt to ensure our development velocity stays responsive and predictable while minimizing production incidents of our operations.
  • Provide input on capability and maturity requirements to meet organizational needs, and inform the strategy to hire, build, or buy the right resources to meet those requirements
  • Define and mature the global Secure Development Lifecycle engagement model and operations across Coinbase regional entities
  • Ensure your team is allocated to the most strategic business needs at the company by understanding the Company's strategy and priorities
  • Bring an automation-first mindset to champion and drive rollout of data protection tooling, privacy engineering concepts, and process improvements across privacy operations
  • Advocate for internal privacy principles, and identify creative ways to embed concepts of privacy by design into operational activities
  • Coach your team to define program plans, success criteria, and execute against their objectives
  • Serve as a point of escalation for your team, identify opportunities to address systemic challenges, and equip your team to drive issue resolution
  • Lead by example and coach others to facilitate challenging discussions, present to stakeholders of all levels, and craft communication
  • Collaborate with Privacy to spearhead efforts both internally and among the broader privacy, cryptocurrency, and fintech communities to raise the data protection standards in our industry
  • Collaborate with trusted partners to support scoping assessments, environment setup/configuration, project management, troubleshooting and vulnerability remediation
  • Your team will be responsible for triaging and support of the public Cloud Bug Bounty program. This will include, but is not limited to: tiered support, documentation, stakeholder management, risk ranking and researcher feedback.

What We Look For In You (ie. Job Requirements)

  • 5+ years of experience in building teams of size 40+ in B2C product based companies.
  • 10+ years of experience leading security teams, including 4+ years of experience in managing senior managers or 2nd level managers.
  • 10+ years of work experience architecting, developing, and launching product security programs and/or services, ideally at a top Consumer Internet company.
  • Experience interfacing with Large, International Engineering organizations (4000+ people).
  • Strong analytic skills and a demonstrated sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work with a wide variety of people.
  • A service-oriented mentality while driving excellence across the organization.
  • Strong organizational skills, both for yourself and the team
  • Business acumen: Proven understanding of business dynamics, goals, and product strategy. Knowledge of how Security fits into Coinbase’s overall business.
  • The ability to balance business needs, a sense of urgency, conflicting constraints, and shipping high quality and pragmatic solutions in a fast-moving and quickly-growing company.
