LOCATION - Onsite: Fort Hunter Liggett


Due to the nature of this role and Tepa’s contractual agreement, this position is required to report to Fort Hunter Liggett in Monterey County 5 days per week.


ABOUT THE JOB


The Tepa Companies are seeking an Environmental Compliance Specialist to support our project at Fort Hunter Liggett in Monterey County, CA.  As an Environmental Compliance Specialist, you will work in a team conducting a wide variety of environmental compliance projects as they relate to hazardous material management, hazardous waste management, air quality, storage tank management, Pollution Prevention, and storm water monitoring and sampling activities. You will also prepare and submit environmental permits, inventory and update air quality databases, audit and inspect facilities for compliance with hazardous materials and waste regulations, monitor and audit construction sites for compliance with regulations and best management practices (BMPs), review and update facility environmental plans including Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs); Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure Plans (SPCCs); Integrated Hazardous Materials and Waste Management Plans (IHMWMP); solid waste plans and refrigerant management plans.


Job responsibilities include:

  • Properly prioritize and execute activities and workflow to meet established program goals and objectives
  • Plan and schedule activities to meet mission requirements
  • Meet due dates for deliverables
  • Ability to work both independently and in team/collaborative settings
  • Demonstrate initiative and self-motivation
  • Ability to work in a very structured military environment and understand military chain of command
  • Able to communicate clearly and professionally with all levels of government and contractor personnel
  • Perform services in a safe manner
  • Meet quality standards specified for the position
  • Understand and evaluate compliance with Federal and State regulations, such as the RCRA, CAA, CWA, EPCRA, TSCA, and DoD Environmental Policies and Procedures. 
  • Meet security requirements. This position is at a military installation. Candidate must be able to pass a DoD National Agency Check with Inquiry (NACI) conducted by the client, and meet DoD entrance clearances. Current registration and insurance is required if driving onto the base.

 

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

 

  • Bachelors degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Studies, engineering or related field
  • Minimum of 2-5 years of previous related environmental compliance experience
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and organizational skills 
  • Proficient in MS Office (MS Word, MS Excel, and MS Power Point)  
  • Demonstrate reliability, self-motivated, and a strong work ethic, exhibit time management skills, be detail oriented, and perform work accurately
  • Work well as part of a collaborative team and also on individually assigned tasks
  • Environmental Compliance Auditing on DoD installations a plus
  • Department of Defense operations familiarity a plus
  • Database manipulation and GIS skills a plus
