The CBA technology unit delivers the best digital banking services to Commonwealth Bank customers and to do so is responsible for digital delivery, group data and analytics, technology, and technology infrastructure, cyber, fraud, physical security and business resilience for all divisions across CBA. It is also dedicated to delivering the best workplace technology experience for our over 53,000 people across CBA and focused on providing the latest tools, technology, and resources to enhance the way we work together and empower our people to achieve more for our customers.

As the Staff Software Engineer this role will see you become part of our wider Quality Engineering and Testing Chapter, leading product, and feature designs, while being critical to the quality of implementation and delivery.

Our Staff Software Engineers are hands-on technical subject-matter experts, accountable for significant portions of large platforms end-to-end, from teams to the security, performance, and reliability.

While having no direct reports, you will be guiding and mentoring the engineers across your crew to scaffold the develop of elegant, well tested, and maintainable code and or software solutions.

  • Can design innovative solutions to solve complicated problems as part of a cross-functional squad.

  • Ensure our technical approach is sound, fit for purpose, and well architected.

  • Support deployments across our Azure and AWS (Amazon Web Services) environments through our continuous delivery pipelines.

  • Promote a culture of continuous learning, experimentation, and innovation, while contributing to governance, standards, and best practices.

  • Act and lead as the technical subject-matter expert for all engineers, sharing your knowledge and expertise to your chapter via workshops and guilds.

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to possess knowledge of them but experience or exposure with some of them or their equals will set you up for success in this team; 

  • Expert in SDLC with broader experience around architecture, design, Implementation, deployment, Integration, and Technology Transformations essential.

  • Software: .Net Framework .Net Core .Net, MVC, Web API, SQL Server.

  • Coding languages: (i.e. JavaScript, TypeScript, C#, Python).

  • DevSecOps: CI/CD tools (i.e. GitHub Action, Jenkins, TeamCity, Checkmarx, Synk, Sonarqube, Octopus).

  • Network: – Firewall, network segmentation, Infrastructure as code, API gateway integration segmentation, essential.

  • IaC: Terraform – highly desirable.

  • Cloud Management: AWS, Microsoft Azure, with the ability to configurate – essential.

  • Containerisation: Docker, Kubernetes – highly desirable.
