Job Summary

 

Marriott operates and franchises hotels and licenses vacation ownership resorts and branded residential properties. Marriott’s Law Department services the Company's lodging and hospitality business and provides legal advice and counsel to Marriott’s internal clients. 

The Global Privacy Manager – Contracts is responsible for supporting the development and implementation of Marriott’s Data Processing Agreement (“DPA”) process and promoting compliance with applicable privacy, data, and information protection laws. The individual will also work to triage privacy inquiry escalations and support the Company’s overall Global Privacy Program.  

 

This position reports to the Director, Global Privacy – Contracts.

Expected Contributions

The primary responsibilities of this position include:

 

  • Managing the day-to-day workflow of the Data Processing Agreement (DPA) process, including reviewing and analyzing projects to determine if a DPA is required, reviewing DPAs for escalation, and coordinating requests for additional information and documentation with the business.
  • Assisting the Global Privacy Director – Contracts in the review and execution of DPAs as part of Marriott’s contract review process. 
  • Maintaining a library of DPAs and associated materials. 
  • With the Global Privacy Director – Contracts developing and implementing training for the contract managers which will include preparing materials, such as standard operating procedures, training decks and speaker notes, related to DPA process. 
  •  Consulting with and advising the procurement team, the Law Department, and Business Units contract leads as appropriate. 
  • Establishing procedures and processes to support the DPA process and privacy inquiries and managing initiatives related to the program so that they are completed on-time and on-budget.
  • Assessing, tracking, triaging, and investigating privacy mailbox inquiries and consulting with Marriott’s Data Protection Officer as appropriate to determine solution and needed corrective action. 
  • Working across disciplines to ensure timely remediation of any privacy inquiries. 
  • Creating and maintaining various privacy related reporting and dashboards.
  • Support and manage additional Global Privacy Office initiatives, as needed. 

Candidate Profile

 

Successful candidates should possess knowledge and experience and demonstrate strong leadership and relationship skills as follows:

  • 4-year bachelor's degree in a relevant area of study from an accredited University. 
  • 3 years of work experience. 
  • Contracts, privacy, or consulting experience a plus;
  • Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP) or other relevant professional certification a plus; 
  • Strong understanding of international privacy laws, regulations, compliance, and best practices;
  • Good written, oral and presentation skills;
  • Good analytical skills;
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects and resources with a sense of urgency;
  • Creative critical thinking skills;
  • Outstanding people skills to effectively build relations and interact with associates at all levels within the organization;
  • High degree of initiative and good judgment to effectively resolve issues;
  • Experience managing change;
  • Ability to work and influence a wide range of cross-functional teams and leaders within a matrixed organization;
  • Good project management skills; and
  • Proficiency with enterprise content management systems, collaboration tools, Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint applications.
