About the role 

Gartner information security teams are a group of passionate information security professionals dedicated to Protecting, Detecting, and Responding to threats. Our team is filled with lifelong learners who are consistently researching ways to better defend and stay ahead of the threats of tomorrow. We are a collaborative group, where good ideas come together whether they come from the most experienced or the newest members of the team. 

Gartner is seeking a highly skilled Principal Security Engineer to assist with leading our efforts in Data Loss Prevention (DLP), endpoint security, and maximizing the effectiveness of our existing security infrastructure. The ideal candidate will also possess expertise in the Microsoft Office 365 Suite, including Purview, Defender for Cloud, and Defender for Endpoint, as well as proficiency in Microsoft's Power Platform, particularly Power BI, to automate Human Cybersecurity Risk processes.

What you will do:

  • Develop and implement robust DLP strategies and solutions to protect sensitive data across all organizational endpoints and networks, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements and industry standards.

  • Assist with the design, deployment, and management of comprehensive endpoint security measures, including threat detection, prevention, and response mechanisms, to mitigate risks and safeguard against cyber threats.

  • Evaluate and optimize our existing security stack to achieve control saturation and enhance overall security posture, leveraging industry best practices and innovative approaches.

  • Utilize expertise in the Microsoft Office 365 Suite, particularly Purview, Defender for Cloud, and Defender for Endpoint, to enhance security capabilities and effectively manage security incidents and alerts.

  • Leverage Microsoft's Power Platform, specifically Power BI, to automate Human Cybersecurity Risk processes, including risk assessment, monitoring, and reporting, to streamline operations and improve efficiency.

  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify security requirements, assess technology solutions, and integrate security controls seamlessly into existing systems and workflows.

  • Provide technical leadership and guidance on security architecture, ensuring alignment with organizational goals, compliance requirements, and industry best practices.

  • Conduct regular security assessments and audits to identify vulnerabilities, assess risk exposure, and recommend remediation measures to mitigate potential threats.

  • Stay abreast of emerging trends, threats, and technologies in the cybersecurity landscape, and proactively recommend enhancements to strengthen the organization's security posture.

  • Serve as a Cybersecurity Awareness and Training expert, providing training, support, and guidance to internal teams, stakeholders, and leadership.

What you will need:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Security, or a related field is preferred. However, equivalent work experience will be considered. 

  • 10+ years of proven experience in designing, implementing, and managing DLP and endpoint security solutions in enterprise environments.

  • Expertise in the Microsoft Office 365 Suite, including Purview, Defender for Cloud, and Defender for Endpoint, with the ability to leverage these tools effectively for security enhancement.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft's Power Platform, particularly Power BI, with experience in automating security processes and generating actionable insights from security data.

  • Strong understanding of security frameworks, standards, and compliance requirements (e.g., ISO 27001, NIST, GDPR) and their application in diverse IT environments.

  • Experience with security architecture design principles, threat modeling, risk assessment methodologies, and security control frameworks.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively convey complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and addressing security risks.

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.

Gartner believes in fair and equitable pay. A reasonable estimate of the base salary range for this role is 128,000 USD - 186,000 USD. Please note that actual salaries may vary within the range, or be above or below the range, based on factors including, but not limited to, education, training, experience, professional achievement, business need, and location. In addition to base salary, employees will participate in either an annual bonus plan based on company and individual performance, or a role-based, uncapped sales incentive plan. Our talent acquisition team will provide the specific opportunity on our bonus or incentive programs to eligible candidates.
