Job Description

Join our Group Benefits Technology Leadership Team!

How will you contribute:

Reporting to the VP, Head of Group Benefits (GB) Technology, you will be responsible for building relationships with our clients and representing Manulife Digital products. This position will require you to support the business in meeting annual sales and meeting the objectives for Group Benefits and Affinity businesses.

Capitalizing on sound industry and IT knowledge; leading Affinity Pre-Sales in collaboration with Client Account Executives to develop and grow existing client relationships by delivering outstanding service; effectively communicate Manulife’s technical value proposition across Group Benefits & Affinity products and services.

Key Accountabilities:

Client Relationship Management: Building and strengthening existing client and consultant/advisor relationships across GB and Affinity businesses. Participate in all finalist presentations with potential clients and represent Manulife’s digital and technical capabilities.

Client Services (RFP response):

Internal Stakeholder Management:

  • Work closely with the Sponsor Services Team and the Distribution Team to achieve annual sales, persistency, growth, and profitability objectives.

Risk, Compliance, and Audits:

  • Lead a team of risk professionals that will manage client audits and external assurance audits (SOC 1 and SOC 2).
  • Manage client presentations related to technology risk and Cyber Security. Partner closely with key risk collaborators within the Group Benefits to coordinate work effort to ensure solutions meet industry and Manulife’s technology standards and risk practices. Key partners include members of Canadian Information Risk Management (CIRM), Global Information Risk Management (GIRM) and Operational Risk Management teams.

People Management:

  • Provide mentorship and support to team members in their professional development.
  • Ensure that team members meet performance expectations, provide feedback and coaching as needed.
  • Recruit, hire, and onboard new team members as needed.
  • Manage and lead the performance appraisal process.


Job Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10+ years of technology leadership experience (business development and product management).
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer engineering, management of information systems or equivalent experience. (CISSP, CISM, or other relevant security certifications is a plus)
  • Proven success in a similar capacity in related business industry.
  • Ability to lead a team to manage the RFP responses that relate to technology and manage client audits.
  • Ability to think strategically and present innovative technical solutions to clients and consultants/advisors.
  • Solid understanding of IT Security and infrastructure.
  • Ability to negotiate and influence effectively throughout the organization.
  • Excellent analytical, presentation and communication skills.
  • Outstanding project management skills and ability to manage multiple competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to take initiative and display integrity.
  • Become the subject matter authority in Group Benefits and Affinity business and technology strategies.
  • Positive relationship building and social skills together with strong active listening skills.

Working Condition:

  • Some travel as required. (National- Canada) 30%
  • Primary staff locations are Waterloo, Toronto (Canada)

Salary & Benefits

The annual base salary for this role is listed below.

Primary Location

Toronto, Ontario

Salary range is expected to be between

$123,400.00 CAD - $229,300.00 CAD

The actual salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
