The Los Angeles County Employees Retirement Association (LACERA) is seeking two Information Technology Specialist I — Information Security Engineers to support critical security programs and operations within the organization. These roles offer an exciting opportunity to contribute to the security posture of critical government systems and services. These technical specialists will work to uphold the confidentiality, integrity, and secure accessibility of LACERA’s systems and information assets. The Engineers will register incidents of risk, set up automations, and work as part of a dedicated team to ensure that the organization adheres to all relevant data privacy acts. The ideal candidates are communicative and engaged team members, who enjoy working both collaboratively and independently.

 

Previous experience in programming and setting up automations is preferred. The successful candidates will also have prior experience with various cybersecurity programs, understand programming languages, be comfortable with hosted mainframe technologies, understand cloud security measures, and uphold the concept of Zero Trust. The Engineers will demonstrate sound judgement when making decisions and analyzing imminent and potential security risks. THE JOB / THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

The Information Technology Specialist I — Information Security Engineers will report to the Information Security Officer and work within the Executive Office, actively collaborating on a team of five to manage LACERA’s cybersecurity programs and projects. Prior experience in the private/public sector or any organization with a strong element of compliance is preferred. These Engineers will be thorough and organized technical administrators who also possess excellent interpersonal skills, capable of building excellent relationships with other staff. They will also be clear communicators, with the ability to explain complex technological concepts in a simplified and engaging way.

 

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE may also have some or all of the below:

 

DESIRED EDUCATION:

  • Degree(s): A bachelor’s or master’s degree from an accredited college or university with major study in information technology, computer science, cyber security administration, or a related field.

Degree Accreditation Information: Degrees from United States accredited institutions and degrees that have been evaluated and deemed to be equivalent to degrees from United States accredited institutions by an academic credential evaluation agency recognized by The National Association of Credential Evaluation Services or the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. are accepted.

 

DESIRED CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Information Technology Certifications: CompTIA, ITIL
  • Information Security Certifications: CompTIA Security+, CISSP, CISM, Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
  • Cloud Certifications: AWS, Azure, GCP

 

PROGRAMS:

  •  Information Security Programs and Systems: SIEM and SOC (current/future LACERA programs), ISO/IEC 27001, SOAR, XDR Antivirus, CASB
  • Programming Languages: PowerShell, Python, C#, Java, JavaScript, Rust, experience in secure coding practices SAST/DAST
  • Operating Systems: Microsoft, Linux, Lynx, z/VM
  •  Consolidated Solutions: SASE, SD-WAN, CASB

 

Employment Standards - Minimum Qualifications

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Specialty)
Two (2) years of experience, within the last three (3) years, at the level of Data Systems Coordinator, LACERA*, or Data Systems Supervisor I, LACERA**, performing highly specialized and complex cybersecurity design and analysis.

 

Such experience must include providing leadership for complex implementation in a high-availability environment, including planning, designing, analysis, and overall project management of network related issues.

 

Special Requirement Information:
*Experience at the level of Data Systems Coordinator, LACERA, must include coordinating and participating in the work involved in an information and work processing system program or a complex systems project, or reviews and evaluates and evaluates the design and utilization of a variety of systems. This is the lead level.
 **Experience at the level of Data Systems Supervisor I, LACERA, must include supervising a small staff of analysts engaged in the analysis, design, and implementation of manual and electronic information and work processing systems, or coordinates the systems program.

  • A valid California Class C Driver License or the ability to utilize an alternative method of transportation when needed to carry out job-related essential functions.

 

 

SALARY AND BENEFITS

An annual salary of Annual Salary: $137,412 - $180,240 DOE/DOQ, plus a generous benefits package.


Candidates will have the opportunity for a hybrid work schedule, with a requirement to be onsite 25% of the time.

Round one interviews will be held virtually and take place on August 15th. Finalists will move forward to round two in-person interviews that take place on August 20th.
