This is a a more recent ‘live’ example of EM JOb description, incase the formatting or verbiage is more useful/helpful:

Engineering Manager, Access Management

The Security Infrastructure group is responsible for delivering a highly trusted foundation for Stripe to operate on. Our teams provides consistent primitives regardless of the underlying infrastructure, enforcing strong security guarantees by default.

The Access Management team’s mission is to protect our users’ data by enforcing least privilege access controls inside Stripe, while also providing a surprisingly seamless experience for Stripes to get the permissions they need to do their best work.

This leader will chart out the long term vision for Access Management at Stripe and grow the team to realize that vision, in close collaboration with stakeholders across Security leadership and broader Stripe. The team is currently seeded with tenured Stripe engineers and this will be a greenfield opportunity to help the group continue to scale, setup for success by a strong foundation.

This team will deliver:

  • A permissions management system which guides users towards least privilege
  • Improvements to our business justification systems, moving from human based reviews of access to computed models for reasoning about access levels
  • A seamless permission UX that fades into the background
  • Workflows for access control that evolve into an increasingly mobile device first, globally located, remote workforce
  • Integrations between our group based permission management systems and our fine-grained service policies and data annotations, to allow users to more concretely reason about exactly what level of access is granted

You may be a good fit if:

  • You have a track record of leading productive engineering teams
  • You have a low ego and bring a high degree of empathy
  • You have a passion for building teams that include identities, backgrounds, and experiences that - reflect those of our ideal user base
  • You encourage a healthy work environment that’s both supportive and challenging
  • You’re excited to help engineers develop new skills and advance in their careers
  • You understand what makes teams successful and what role a manager can play in that process
  • You’re clear and persuasive in writing and in person
  • You lead by example, by setting the right context, and by helping teammates do their best work
  • You know when to let a team work through problems and when to jump in to help
  • You’re technical enough to ask engineers good questions about architecture and product decisions
  • You have at least a couple of years of engineering management experience
