Network Security Infrastructure Automation Engineer IV

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:  An Automation Engineer is a key element within the Rackspace migration team and is expected to provide a high level of technical support to our customers. Owns complex automations that enable Rackspace to execute large-scale datacenter migrations. Applies creative problem-solving techniques to identify the source of problems; while at the same time keeping the customer aware of every step along the way. An Automation Engineer is expected to use initiative and standard programming practices to ensure the stability and security of Rackspace’s automated solutions. KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITY:  Expert knowledge of Network fundamentals, including diagnostics with Windows or Linux system tools. Uses skills as a seasoned experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and company policies and procedures; resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways.  Able to implement automated tasks into an orchestration engine. Identifies inefficiencies with automation/orchestration and develops and implements solutions. Excellent knowledge of either Windows, Linux, Networking or a combination.  Continually expands knowledge in the areas of new developments and trends; may make recommendations to management on desirable additions and developments. Excellent ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in order to maintain required productivity levels. Must be detailed in documenting information and practice good follow through techniques. Excellent problem-solving abilities coupled with a desire to take on responsibility.  Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills. Ability to communicate technical info and ideas so others will understand. Ability to make appropriate decisions considering the relative costs and benefits of potential actions. Ability to apply varying leadership skills and traits that create solutions and results to unexpected situations. Good ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize work in order to maintain required productivity levels.  Ability to successfully work and promote inclusiveness in small groups. Due to the 24x7 operations of the business, must be able to work a flexible work schedule, may include nights, weekends, holidays, etc.  Ability to provide FANATICAL support.
JOB COMPLEXITY:  Proposes and implements system enhancements that will improve the capabilities, performance and reliability of the automations. Coordinates the order and execution of the development, upgrading, monitoring, testing and servicing the automations.   Defines, designs and implements automated solutions for their functional area. Builds and supports automations for deployment, diagnostics and remidiations run on customer devices.  This will include bulk and on-demand solutions for end user use.  Drives and leads design initiative for complex solutions.  Designs robust, scalable, secure, and globalized feature.  Demonstrates sound rationale in making design trade-offs for feature areas across complex solutions.  Identifies risks and dependencies for feature.  Effectively manages dependencies for feature areas across complex solutions.  Drives continuous adoption and integration of relevant new technologies into design.  Efficiently implements or leads the implementation of complex solutions with minimal technical debt.
SUPERVISION:  Self driven; ability to manage position without direct supervision.  EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION:  ·       High school diploma or equivalent required.  Requires 7 to 10 years experience in systems administration or related field.   ·       Demonstrated ability to consistently provide FANATICAL support.  ·       Expert knowledge of Python or Golang.·       Able to automate most Cisco networking commands.·       Understands and adheres to software development best practices.·       Capable of troubleshooting APIs.·       Strong knowledge of version control using Git or similar tools.#LI-LP2
