Summary Rackspace Elastic Engineering is a new service model designed to help customers build and operate modern cloud environments.  While many traditional managed security services are fixed scope and focused solely on monitoring and infrastructure operations, Rackspace Elastic Engineering for Security is intended to help customers embrace a cloud centric approach to security while delivering ongoing innovation, modernization, and transformation in addition to 24x7x365 security operations. The Sr. Cloud Security Engineer acts as the security expert for cloud hosted customers within a team of security experts delivering advanced security services to Rackspace customers.  This role is responsible for helping asses, recommend, design, implement, and manage secure cloud environments including the provision and configuration of secure workload and public cloud security services as well as application of third party security tooling as appropriate.   The Rackspace Elastic Engineering delivery model provides high customer affinity and allows the Sr. Cloud Security Engineer to serve as an extension of the customers team while delivering best-practice-led engineering and operations services.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and manage scalable security solutions that meet customer requirements leveraging both cloud-agnostic and cloud native security tools
  • Lead collaborative design and implementation of solutions to meet remediation requirements for audits, security reviews, security incidents, and other activities
  • Design and implement automated security processes and controls to increase operational effectiveness and reduce manual processes
  • Implement and help manage and respond to security monitoring tools including Managed Detection and Response solution
  • Provide specification documentation deliverables to address cybersecurity vulnerabilities and the security controls necessary to mitigate the vulnerabilities to an acceptable level of risk through application of risk management framework concepts
  • Participate in pre-project cybersecurity risk assessment and recommend, design, implement, and manage controls as appropriate and as agreed with customers
  • Apply an organization's goals and objectives to develop and maintain security architecture
  • Develop, update, and/or maintain standard operating procedures 
  • Apply cybersecurity, compliance, and privacy principles to organizational requirements
  • Conduct routine vulnerability, configuration, and compliance assessments, and work with customers to prioritize and manage the resulting findings
  • Develop IP, tools, processes, procedures, and guidelines to support growth within Rackspace  Elastic Engineering for Security
  • Assist in sales pursuits as a subject matter expert

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering or a related field
  • 7 or more years of related experience in Information Security, Cybersecurity and/or Information Technology to include accountability for complex tasks and/or projects
  • 3+ years experience in at least one or more cloud providers including AWS, Azure, and GCP
  • Exposure or experience with VMWare NSX a plus
  • Engineering experience with technologies such as firewalls, vulnerability management tools, IDP/IPS, HIDs, FIM, EDR, WAFs, IAM and various other types of security controls including cloud native security tools
  • Proficiency in the area of security monitoring and incident response within public cloud environments
  • Experience with security monitoring and response process, including detecting advanced adversaries, log analysis using SIEM or similar tools, and malware triage
  • Cybersecurity Standards and Regulatory requirements experience

Preferred skills:

  • Proficient level of business acumen in the areas of business operations, risk management, industry practices and emerging trends
  • Familiar with attacker tools/tactics/procedures and applying them to hunts, investigations, and incident response
  • Hands on experience in containerized environments such as Docker or Kubernetes
  • Application/IOT Security knowledge
  • DevSecOps experience
  • Professional services experience
