About the Role:  

As a security engineer the right candidate will play a role in designing security elements of Planet’s spacecraft and associated ground based systems, work with the development teams during design and implementation of the system, as well as working with satellite operations teams to ensure the systems are operating securely. Person will help manage select critical security systems managed by the Corporate Engineering team. Person may also help with other corporate security related work as needs (or interest) arise.

This is a hybrid role needing a range of technical and interpersonal skills.

The candidate will need a strong technical software background ideally with some exposure to  embedded systems. This position requires working with different stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle, developing system level requirements, participating in security architecture and design, driving security architecture reviews, occasional code reviews, and working with developers in addressing security vulnerabilities. The candidate will have knowledge of cryptographic concepts, and be comfortable researching specific topics as needed for the task at hand. The candidate will develop utilities and tools as needed. Familiarity with networking and Cloud computing systems like GCP or AWS is preferred.

 What You Bring:

• Candidates must have a solid computer science, software engineering, or equivalent technical background
• Software development experience ideally some of it being with embedded systems
• Knowledge of security concepts including cryptography
• Experience developing security requirements at a cross-system level 
• Experience leading or participating in projects
• Drive processes and systems to support the success of Planet's products

What Makes You Stand Out:

• Bachelor or a Master of Science degree in an Engineering discipline with a focus in Information Security.
• At least 4-5 years of professional experience in a security focused role
• Strong interpersonal, oral and written communication skills
