MANAGER, SECURITY ENGINEERING

SpaceX is building out our security org to protect some of the world’s most advanced technologies including: rockets, Dragon capsules for human transport, inter-planetary transport vehicles, the world's largest satellite communications network, etc. As an industry leader, we are a target of adversaries, both foreign and domestic, focused on slowing us down and accessing our proprietary technology. The work we do on the Security Engineering team will literally safeguard mankind becoming an interplanetary species. 

As a manager of security engineering, you will oversee a team of security engineers to provide technical leadership and team development. This is both a hands-on technical role where coding and technical capability is expected as well as a managerial role where you will be responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training engineers. This role will support specifics ranging from network security, identity, automation, and infrastructure to application and software security. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manage, mentor, and lead a talented team of security engineers 
  • Be an expert in one of the following:
    • Identity, Networking, Infrastructure, Software Security, Automation
  • Manage and track multiple priorities while maintaining a focus towards common project goals
  • Provide strong technical leadership with a focus on continuous improvement
  • Lead the design and execution of enterprise security systems, applications, processes, procedures and playbooks
  • Work and collaborate with other leaders in the organization to push projects forward 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years of professional experience in security engineering with a Bachelor's degree in in information technology, information security, computer science OR 8+ years of years of professional experience in security engineering
  • 3+ years of professional experience leading security teams in an operational or technical capacity 

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Experience with code repository management, code merge and quality checks, continuous integration, and automated deployment using tools like Bamboo, Git, Ansible, Terraform 
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated persistence in driving projects to completion and working with various engineering teams 
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal 
  • Desire and ability to ramp up quickly on new technologies 
  • Great creative and innovative problem-solving skills 
  • Experience using languages like Python, Go, Rust, or C#    

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to work longer hours as needed

ITAR REQUIREMENTS:

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
