MANAGER, PRODUCT SECURITY ENGINEERING – TOP SECRET CLEARANCE

The product security engineering team is hiring for R&D satellite programs that are pushing the boundaries of in-space capabilities. Our missions support scientific research, classified national security missions, and commercial opportunities. Software engineering, innovation, and security is of the utmost importance for these programs.

We are seeking highly technical, passionate engineers to manage teams securing our software and hardware. We are looking for leaders that see the big picture, prioritize accordingly, and inspire others to achieve greatness.

Candidates should have notable skills in one or more of the following: operating system security, firmware security, software development, exploit development, exploit mitigation, and security architecture design. Candidates should be able to clearly communicate security priorities and build strong relationships with other engineering teams.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Directly manage team of security software engineers
  • Own all aspects of security for SpaceX product lines, including threat modeling, mitigation efforts, and validation testing
  • Own development of internal tooling to assist in modeling, analysis, detection, and prevention of security threats
  • Work with development teams to design security into systems and drive security reviews throughout product lifecycle
  • Prioritize and drive work to improve the security of SpaceX products
  • Stay current on industry developments to inform an evolving threat model
  • Provide strong technical leadership with a focus on continuous improvement

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, math, or physics discipline OR 8+ years of years of professional experience in security engineering in lieu of a degree
  • 5+ years of professional experience in security engineering
  • Experience leading software security teams in an operational or technical capacity
  • Active Top Secret or Top Secret SCI clearance, or ability to obtain one

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrated skill in software and hardware security, including a track record of identifying and mitigating high-impact vulnerabilities
  • Experience designing and implementing software in at least one software language such as C, C++, Python, or Golang
  • History of catalyzing security improvements in complex systems
  • Professional experience designing and implementing security solutions for operating systems, distributed systems, and/or embedded systems
  • Strong organizational skills and demonstrated persistence in driving projects to completion and working with engineering teams
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
  • Desire and ability to ramp up quickly on new technologies
  • Great creative and innovative problem-solving skills                        

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Note that an active clearance may provide the opportunity for you to work on sensitive SpaceX missions; if so, you will be subject to pre-employment drug and random drug and alcohol testing
  • Ability to work longer hours as needed

  • To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, including the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) you must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by 8 U.S.C. 1324b(a)(3), or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
