Cyber Security Apprenticeship (Level 3)

The Cyber Security Apprenticeship (Level 3) has been developed to train a learner to be a qualified Information Security Analyst as part of Ocado Group’s Cyber Security team. This role, with the support of a close team and provided training will soon be responsible for analysing security alerts, responding to security incidents and providing security advice and support to all Ocado employees.

Here at Ocado, security analysts (the role this apprenticeship will train you in) have a vital role in responding rapidly and investigating the source of a cyber threat and launching straight into damage control. Protecting sensitive data and the integrity of an Ocado’s system is paramount –  with analysts ready to jump into action by monitoring traffic and looking for any activity that might raise alarms. Security Analysts are the first responders of the cybersecurity world and react quickly to identify, isolate and solve security threats and cyber-attacks. 

 

About the Apprenticeship

With the support of an external training provider, you will finish this 18 months programme with a level 3 apprenticeship qualification and a range of real work skills to catapult your career. This apprenticeship will  offer protected study time with the other 80% being relievent, on the job learning. Working in information security team (Infosec) as a Cyber Security Apprentice, you will learn to build a wide variety of skills, including monitoring networks and systems, detect security threats ('events'), analyse and assess alarms, and report on threats, intrusion attempts and false alarms, resolving them or escalating them, depending on the severity. You will also aid in putting preventive security controls to detect abnormal events before they become an incident.

This is an opportunity to combine the knowledge you would gain from a security qualification with Information Security job experience. By joining the information security team here at Ocado, you will be exposed to real-life situations that companies face daily and learn how to assess, mitigate and respond to digital threats.

The general purpose of the Apprenticeship is to provide first-line cybersecurity support. This requires individuals to monitor and detect potential security threats and escalate as necessary and support secure and uninterrupted business operations of an organisation by implementing innovative cybersecurity mechanisms and countermeasures techniques to protect Ocado and its systems. 

To contribute to delivering a security culture across Ocado, understanding vulnerabilities and threats and supporting the development of an organisation's cybersecurity maturity.

As a Cyber Security Apprentice, you will interact with a wide range of stakeholders, including colleagues, managers, customers and internal and external suppliers. They would typically work as a member of a team; this may be office based or virtual. You will learn how to use cybersecurity tools and conduct vital cybersecurity tasks, including security assessment, security incident response and participate in security investigations using Security information and event management systems (SIEM) and endpoint protection, threat intelligence, and responses tools.

The employee will be expected to work with internal and external stakeholders under general direction. They will be trained to determine when issues should be escalated to a higher level.

Your Learning and Development and Your Role

During this programme you will have a training provider that will offer you a structured academic learning programme alongside the training provided by Ocado Group also. This amounting to achieving an industry recognised qualification as well as gaining a huge amount of CV building experiences, commercial knowledge and soft skills on top. 

You will have teams of people around the business to support you in achieving this. You will be assigned a security analyst mentor who will be your main point of contact. They will work with you daily, support you on tasks and help divide your time between study and work-related activities. The Emerging Talent team will look after you from a programme perspective. They will be organising regular Learning & Development sessions, social events and employability workshops. Beyond this, Ocado Group has Mental Health First Aiders, Listening Champions and HR Business Partners that are always on hand to support in any other way.

Eligibility

A minimum of 5 GCSEs in addition to 2 A-Levels or Level 3 equivalent (apprenticeship or BTEC in a relatable subject).
