Job Description

The Square Compliance Engineering team builds systems to find and report financial crimes activity across the entirety of Square’s product line. We work globally with partners in engineering and compliance to manage regulatory risk at scale, keeping our business and customers safe from financial crimes while simultaneously helping the business move faster with product innovations.


We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer to help us build the next generation of investigation and workflow tools to support Square’s entire compliance program. At our scale, we need to ensure our tools can keep up with billions of dollars in transactions across traditional payment and blockchain networks. Help us uncover sophisticated money laundering and criminal fraud activities to further our mission of economic empowerment for all.


You Will: 

  • Design and implement the next generation of investigation and workflow tools for Square’s compliance program
  • Partner with other technical teams in the wider compliance engineering and technology organization
  • Utilize a product oriented mindset, working closely with product, operations, and other stakeholders to gather and refine requirements
  • Lead efforts to help shape the future technical direction of the team
  • Provide mentorship to other engineers and help set a strong and positive team culture

Qualifications

  • 5-8+ years software engineering experience
  • Experience building products end to end - from technical design, implementation, testing, and launch
  • Rigorous attention to detail - our tools have to work correctly to keep our company safe
  • Natural curiosity and desire to grow and help shape all aspects of our team
  • Excellent communication skills and are comfortable working with a cross-functional, globally distributed team

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500
Zone B: USD $192,400 - USD $235,200
Zone C: USD $182,300 - USD $222,800
Zone D: USD $172,200 - USD $210,400

This role is also eligible to participate in Block's equity plan subject to the terms of the applicable plans and policies, and may be eligible for a sign-on bonus.
