Job Description

Who are we looking for?

Conducting vulnerability assessments, working with the development and IT admin teams, and assisting the wider business functions on topics related to IT security on IT and OT systems.

The candidate will have strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, as well as a detailed understanding of information security technologies and best practices. 

What will you be responsible for?

The Security Analyst will be responsible for analyzing and assessing potential security threats and risks to our organization's information systems and data, as well as implementing controls to mitigate those risks. 

  •  Assist in helping develop, implement and improve cyber security threat detection on the UKAEA’s networks.
  • Assist in monitoring and analyzing security logs, incident management tools and threat detection systems’ alerts and raise high-priority issues for action
  • Assist in developing and managing IT security policies
  • Provide help and support to users around security concerns.
  • Contribute to improving cyber security awareness, practices, and processes within the team and across the organisation.

Qualifications

Essential skills, experience and competence required

  • Degree in relevant subject such as computer science, maths or similar. 

  • Good understanding of or experience with cyber security threat detections systems. 

  • Ability to apply good design principles and enthusiasm to develop this further. 

  • Ability to use good development practices such as version control, testing and knowledge of continuous integration. 

  • Experience with using Linux operating systems and the command line. 

  • Appetite to research and learn new technologies. 

  • Ability to work as part of a team and communicate effectively in both technical and non-technical terms. 

Desirable skills, experience and competence

  • Some familiarity with scientific concepts to discuss with domain experts. 

  • Concepts involved in user interface design. 

  • Deployment of software on Linux platforms. 

  • Python-based web technologies (such as Django/Flask). 

  • Familiarity with search systems, such as Elasticsearch or Apache Solr. 

  • Familiarity with concepts involved in server management and configuration.
