What's the role?

We are looking for a proven Security Leader to help us design and build the tools required to outpace an ever-maturing threat landscape.

As a Staff Engineer on the Security Operations team, you’ll work with Engineering Managers, Senior Engineers, and multi-functional partners to design the technical foundations of our threat detection and incident response programs. At the same time, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to be hands-on building key services, and will be directly responsible for the successful delivery of large-scale technical efforts.

Security Operations is charged with detecting and evicting sophisticated emerging threats at scale. Are you interested in the prospect of architecting systems able to find a needle in an ocean of needles? If so, this could be the perfect match.

This is a full-time position reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, Security Operations and the base salary range will be 201,000-235,000 USD. In addition to salary, you will also be eligible for an equity package, an annual performance bonus, and our competitive benefits that support you and your family as part of your total rewards package at Etsy. What does the day-to-day look like?

• Design, implement, and maintain critical services to improve security outcomes
• Establish and foster engineering excellence across Security Operations and peer teams
• Lead all aspects of high-visibility security initiatives
• Offer elegant and secure solutions to complex problems spanning company-wide
• Serve as an authority in applied security operations, providing critical context during high-priority incidents
• Engage with individuals across Etsy to identify risk and build partnerships

Qualifications

Qualities that will help you thrive in this role are:

• 7+ years of progressive experience working in security operations domains (ex. threat detection, incident response)
• Professional experience building production services in Python (or equivalent language)
• Experience designing systems and tools to aid in threat detection, triage, and response
• A breadth and depth of applied security knowledge
• A depth of knowledge about cloud computing environments (GCP or AWS)
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
