Manager - Security Detection and Response

We are looking for an individual to join the Security team and lead our Security Detection and Response team. This is a high impact role reporting to the Senior Director of Security Operations, and you'll lead efforts to detect and respond to vulnerabilities and security events while collaborating with the several teams making up Security at Fastly. 

You will be supported by a friendly security team, where you can learn and develop. We check our egos at the door. You’ll make sure our customers benefit from services built to the highest security standards in the industry.

What You'll Do

  • You’ll direct a team of security engineers that have expertise in security event detection and security incident response 
  • You’ll lead security incident response activities and the improvement of existing response plans and playbooks
  • You’ll supervise strategic and tactical efforts to improve Fastly’s ability to proactively detect and respond to security issues using industry standard technology like SIEM as well as custom in house tools
  • You’ll drive the continuous improvement of security detection and incident response
  • You’ll collaborate with other teams and use your knowledge of the environment and risk exposure to help improve security protection, detection, and response activities. 

Work Hours: This position will require you to be available during core business hours.

What We're Looking For

Basic Qualifications:

  • You have a strong technical understanding and experience building and tuning security detection logic across multiple technology platforms
  • You enjoy handling security incidents and have a deep understanding of them as well as exploitation tactics, techniques and procedures (TTPs)
  • You are able to see the big picture of security threats, risks, and vulnerabilities and use that knowledge to more effectively detect security issues
  • You are familiar with and have experience creating Splunk queries, reports and dashboards
  • You have strong written and verbal communication skills and a willingness and desire to collaborate in order to achieve the best results
  • You bring a proactive mentality that is constantly looking for ways to improve
  •  You’re passionate about customer service

Preferred Qualifications:

  • You have hands-on experience with SIEM, SOAR and security platforms that feed into them
  • You have worked in or managed a security operations center (SOC) before
  • You have designed and built automation for security detection and response

Fastly currently embraces a largely hybrid model for most roles which allows employees flexibility to split their time between the office and home.  

This position may require travel as required by your role or requested by your manager.

Salary

The estimated salary range for this position is $142,630 to $209,740. 

Starting salary may vary based on permissible, non-discriminatory factors such as experience, skills, qualifications, and location.

This role may be eligible to participate in Fastly’s equity and discretionary bonus programs.
