Kōrero mō te tūranga | About the role

We’re on a journey to transform our business end-to-end, and this transformation has been felt hardest and fastest in ICT. As we strengthen our technology, customer, and data capabilities, adopt modern ways of working and shape our culture for greater agility, innovation and customer obsession, the ICT team have rolled with change after change, boosting their mana and engagement with the business to be the team our people turn to when they need help.

Cybersecurity is a critical cog in this wheel. As Head of Information Security, you’ll lead a skilled team of Security Specialists working to keep Contact secure in a world of constantly shifting sand and ever-increasing threat. The type of business we are means this role comes with diverse, interesting problem-sets – we have great foundations and great support, but as we scale up it’s vital we continue to hold a security lens to everything we do.

This is a high-profile role with a broad remit. Reporting to our Chief Information Officer, you’ll lead the information security and cyber strategy across Contact to ensure that our information security assets are adequately protected. You’ll bring a deep understanding of the cyber security landscape to offer strategic direction, support and guide individual risk owners, influence, collaborate, adapt, and ultimately ensure we keep evolving to match the future.

As a key part of the leadership team, you’ll need influence and visibility, big-picture vision, and an in-depth understanding of the core functions within Information Security. We’re looking for a visionary leader who can talk, act, and deliver at an enterprise level without losing sight of what’s most important to us: people. With plenty of mahi under your belt in Information Security management or related functions like IT Risk Management, IT Security Assessments or IT Systems Audit, ideally with a past life in technical IT roles (such as IT architecture, risk, development or operations), you’re one of the special few who’s highly technical by nature but totally comfortable bringing non-technical folk on the journey. You’ve led, managed, and evolved an Information Security function through a blend of tenacity, EQ, people leadership, and stakeholder management, and are looking for somewhere that feels like ‘home’ to bring all of that to life again.

Your working style is the opposite of transactional, equipping you to mentor meaningfully, drive continuous improvement, and build strong engagement and collaboration. This role will have core cross-functional relationships, so you’ll also need to be a superb communicator; a thought leader who can build great rapport with ease, influence across various levels, and really bring people on the journey.

Additional Information

We support our people to work how, where and when works the best. Most of the ICT team are based in Wellington and work 2-3 days a week in our office there (the rest at home), so that would be the place to be if you enjoy regular in-person team time, however this role can be fully remote, and we’re open to applications from all over Aotearoa. You might be interested to know we have offices in Auckland, Taupō, Taranaki and Central Otago, too.
