Job Description

A day in the life of a Cyber Security Specialist 

The European Parliament’s Secretariat assists the European Parliament (‘EP’), so its Members and political organs can carry out their activities effectively. The European Parliament’s Secretariat is in charge to ensure continuity of Parliament’s parliamentary and administrative activities at acceptable pre-defined levels following disruptive incidents. The Directorate General for Innovation and Technological Support (‘DG ITEC’) provides the European Parliament with information and communications technology (‘ICT’) services and has developed a Business Continuity Plan (‘BCP’), including Business Impact Analyses (‘BIA’) in order to embed the European Parliament’s Business Continuity Policy into DG ITEC’s activities.
Within DG ITEC, the Cybersecurity threats, risks monitoring and reporting data protection compliance Unit (‘SECRISK Unit’) is in charge to improve DG ITEC’s resilience  by supporting DG ITEC services in embedding a business continuity management ‘by design’ approach into technical practices (including operations and projects). SECRISK Unit will coordinate the exercises of BIAs update and of specific operational procedures drafting per key activity, and where appropriate, organise training and awareness activities to reinforce the business continuity culture within DG ITEC

Your main duties will be:

• Support in the SECRISK Unit’s exchanges with DG ITEC services, planning of work and follow up on tasks, which may include:
  • Assistance in the preparation, organisation and follow-up of meetings;
  • Drafting of meeting notes, to be validated by participants, which will be used for the follow-up of the DG ITEC services exercises;
  • Examining, keeping a track on changes (in documents exchanged during meetings and other correspondences) and reporting of these changes to the SECRISK Unit.
  • Preparation of forms to collect required information, collection from DG ITEC services that information and checking completion of collected information;
  • Monitoring of correspondences until all required information is collected while monitoring the deadlines and production of regular state of plays to the SECRISK Unit on the collection progress;
  • Compilation and archiving of all collected information;
  • Assistance in the analysis and review of the compiled information vis-à-vis the objectives of the DG ITEC business continuity exercises (gap analysis);
  • Documentation and archiving of this analysis and maintenance of the archived files, which will have to be ready for consultation at any time.
  • Assistance in the planning of coordination, training and awareness activities;
  • Proposal of practical solutions to improve these activities.
• Support in the SECRISK Unit’s reporting of DG ITEC business continuity exercises and in updating core documents, which may include:
  • Assistance in the drafting, transmission and review of reports (including communications and presentations);
  • Documentation of the decisions made following the reports;
  • Assistance in the drafting of lessons learned and recommendations;
  • Assistance in the report of risks related to business continuity in the risk register.
  • Assistance in the preparation and maintenance of Business Continuity Plans (BCPs) and Business Impact Analyses (BIAs).

Qualifications

If you have

• Minimum 4 years of professional experience in the following areas:
  • Business Analysis and create, manage and review technical documents including changes;
  • Analyse, assess the impacts of changes and assess risks, including feasibility studies;
  • Quality and/or control procedures;
  • Conducting studies in the area of ICT, by gathering, analysing and documenting (non-)functional requirements including changes;
  • ICT project management and meet and collaborate with business representatives, software architects and developers;
  • Monitor and ensure requirements are met during implementation.
• Minimum 2 years of professional experience in the following areas
  • Business continuity activities;
  • Development and maintenance of BCPs;
  • Development and maintenance of BIAs.
