ABOUT THE ROLE

As an Amazon Career Choice Part-Time Mentor II, you'll scale your impact as a Cybersecurity professional by training the next generation of Cybersecurity talent. You’ll serve as a subject matter expert to students and help them relate course concepts to the profession and real world. You will support students through exercises designed to build knowledge and skills and promote grit, problem-solving and a collaborative learning community. Ultimately, as an integral member of the instructional team you will prepare students for the next chapter in their lives as they seek employment in the cybersecurity field.

This role reports to a Manager of Instructional Teams and is supported by a collaborative instructional team and dedicated support staff to ensure an exceptional experience for each student in the cohort.

Classes are delivered synchronously and are 100% online. Mentors will attend live 2 hours classes Monday and Thursday and will provide synchronous guided practice on Tuesdays and Fridays. Additionally Mentors will work asynchronously to grade student work. Cohorts run for 32 weeks from late February through mid-October with a two week break in July.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Create a positive, professional and inclusive learning environment by:
    • Employ strategies known to meet the needs of adult learners
    • Leverage tech tools and instructional best practices that engage learners
    • Help students connect content to the real world by sharing industry insights and professional experience
    • Manage regular communication with students to align on progress, expectations, celebrate milestones and address concern areas.
    • Adhere to all Fullstack policies and instructional team expectations
  • Evaluate student performance and progression toward competencies based on course deliverables and course rubrics by:
    • Provide constructive and timely feedback to students in the cohort
    • Maintain accurate records related to student progress
    • Assist in management of Academic Success Plans for individual students who need additional support
  • Serve as role model for students by:
    • Exhibit professionalism, an ethical and empathetic approach and act as an ambassador for our brand whenever engaging with Fullstack staff, students, industry and the public
    • Promote student retention and amplify student satisfaction by creating a positive classroom culture for with students through effective interventions and sharing of resources
    • Encourage teamwork and approach role with growth mindset

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 1+ years of experience in cybersecurity as a threat analyst, cybersecurity analyst, SOC analyst, or similar role
  • You are ready to teach the following core technologies:
    • Linux command line
    • NIST Cybersecurity Framework
    • Windows OS: Group Policy, Active Directory
    • Scripting: Python, Bash, PowerShell
    • Tools: Splunk, Snort, Wireshark, Metasploit, Burp Suite, Nmap
  • A passion for the cybersecurity industry and a desire to impact lives and business outcomes
  • A passion for mentoring and teaching and an ability to explain complex technical concepts to beginners
  • A history of choosing a path of integrity
  • The ability to joyfully commit to a rigorous course schedule

Part-Time Mentors II are hourly, non-exempt employees. As such they will be compensated for all time worked. Part-time Mentors II can expect to work approximately 16 hours per week and should not exceed expected hours without manager approval.

Colorado Equal Pay For Equal Work Act disclosure:

The expected compensation for this role for candidates from Colorado is $30 per hour for candidates who fulfill the qualifications for the role. Candidates whose qualifications are above those listed are encouraged to apply as well. All final offers to candidates will be based on that candidate's unique experience and skillset, and not all candidates will qualify for the top of the salary range.
