Job purpose

Janes is looking for an OSINT Analyst/researcher to become part of the Janes RD&A Red Team. As an RD&A Red Team Analyst you will take on the role of a Janes customer who is attempting to develop a finished intelligence product using Janes online tools and materials. The output of this will be a report that scores Janes overall ability to answer the question, a number of subfactors such as the timeliness and completeness of data, as well as other measures of quality.

As a Janes Red Team Analyst you will be fully trained in and utilise Janes Tradecraft in your efforts to answer the scenario including to SOCMINT, GEOINT, and IMINT, structured analysis, research bias, intelligence and information management workflows, and the exploitation and automations of online tools.

In this role you will co-own the quality framework methodology that Janes content is to be assessed against, including the development and evolution of the questions that the team is attempting to answer, the time boxes/stage gates that each research sprint will pass through, and the final reporting structure/presentation that is delivered.

You will need to be comfortable in providing feedback to senior stakeholders in the business, including the but not limited to Chief Content and Data Officer, Content Directors, Subject Heads, as well as directly to analysts where relevant.

How you will contribute to Janes

  • Co-own and evolve the Janes Red Team Quality Framework and Scoring System that is used to evaluate the quality of Janes content.
  • Use established OSINT techniques and research methodologies across Janes platforms and content in order to answer representative customer questions and compare it to externally available sources.
  • Identify gaps in existing content that should be prioritised for additional research, or data/content that is not currently part of the Janes estate that should be considered for expansion.
  • Identify areas of conflict or inconsistency across Janes data and content sets, undertake research to determine which should be viewed as correct, and suggest internal process/workflow changes that could have prevented conflict/inconsistency occurring.
  • Identify external sources that Janes should be monitoring to improve our collection and validation of content.
  • Provide constructive, structured feedback to stakeholders at various levels of seniority and across different departments.

Requirements

  • Demonstrable knowledge of either the defence sector, military operations, or country analysis.
  • Knowledge and understanding of current international events in the military and security environments.
  • Background in primary and secondary research methodologies.
  • OSINT certification/qualification an advantage but not essential.
  • Intermediate/advanced use in MS Office applications including Excel and PowerPoint, knowledge of extended MS applications such as Power Automate an advantage.
  • Experience in presenting and providing feedback to senior individuals.
